One of our local TV news broadcasts included a piece about cities competing for the largest Ferris Wheel. New York's will be the largest, once completed (see NY Times article below). I wonder if such a Ferris Wheel would be a good attraction for the Panther Island entertainment district? Note that these new "wheels" are not of the kiddie variety like we see at the Stock Show midway or even at Six Flags. They are more like architecturally artistic signature statements of cultural value but amusement function.
Also, here's a thought about a Fort Worth downtown "signature" statement with a functional transit value. Why not construct two huge crisscrossing arch-shaped loops that have people-moving pods from one end of downtown to the other? One loop would span northwest to southeast and intersect in the middle with the other loop that would span northeast to southwest. The height of these arches would surpass our tallest building and they would be LED-lighted for both artistic and aviation safety purposes.
