Construction activity downtown delayed while remains are being analyzed by medical examiner:

Previous construction work north of this location in 1901 recovered Native American remains and burial artifacts.

If it turns out to be Native American pre-historic remains, I hope the same care will be shown to the site that the Stockyards is getting. The site should have been preserved in 1901.

In 1901 most alive then would have been thru the Indian wars or had close relatives that did--there was no love lost in those generations to preserve anything Native American.

I would doubt if any preservation plans will result from this find unless some millionaire land investors feel they can use it as a centerpiece for disneyfied apartment and condo development.

I wish they had given the date of the 1949 article.

I have heard that Castleberry High School (my alma mater) was built on an Indian burial ground and that it has a history of ghost sightings.
