Informative article in the Fort Worth Business Press about one of Fort Worth's early pioneers, John Peter Smith. The article's author is J.W. Labbe, an executive with JPS Health Systems. We all know about the old John Peter Smith Hospital serving indigents. What I didn't know was that Smith was instrumental in starting a railway system in our city.

Very interesting! I was born at JPS, my mom worked there at the time.

He was paid in property as a land surveyor. Can you imagine that kind of transaction today?
