Whoa! A local real estate development company just bought the Ashton Hotel. I hope this is a good thing. The Ashton is my favorite hotel in the FW/D amalgam. Story below:

The Ashton's a great place. My uncle stayed there last time he came up from Houston and just loved it. Great building, as well.

Article in the FWST today. It sounds like the new owners have a real respect for the property, and plans for it involve a simply a good sprucing up. Plasma TVs, new carpet & furniture, etc.

What do you suppose the Gandys are going to do now? Maybe they'll do another property.

Shirlee mentioned in the article that they were going to spend more time with Ashton Depot. Don't know if that means more effort filling it with events, new plans, or what... I was trying to think of other properties that they should buy and renovate, but they probably own them already anyway.

Perhaps spruce up that former bank building on Houston St. and 9th.

I hear they sold their condo on Pecan too. Cashin in ? ? ?

I don't think they are cashin' in at all...just re-arranging. They bought a house with a yard for their young grandchildren, and they got out of the hotel business with 1,000 new rooms looming on the horizon...both sound like smart strategies to me.

The Ashton Hotel sold again.  The Star-Telegram is reporting that the group who purchased the building is from Dallas.

Is this the part of the script where we're supposed to storm the hotel with pitchforks and torches?
