Posy #49 was a bit prophetic.. Moore has continued to be hit and was earlier this week.

Today is the 17th Anniversary of the tornado in downtown.  I was at an AIA Meeting inside the former Leddy's Ranch Space at the Sanger Lofts when it hit.  The AIA is meeting again on Thursday.  I hope there won't be any bad storms.

I think there will be some small tornadoes out east today, but shouldn't be anything to bad by the time it arrives here.

I remember two things that were completely surreal from the day after the tornado. Driving in on 121 to 35 to 30 to get to the west side that morning and seeing how the damage was spread across downtown was unbelievable.  It was nearly dark when pictures started rolling in the night before and many of the images that I saw early that morning were of the more severe locations: Bank One, Cash America, Calvary Cathedral.  It was clear that morning that a large portion of downtown was hit pretty hard.  Later that day, some of my coworkers and I headed out to check on a warehouse that we were renting for storage on the east side of downtown near the Purina plant.  Driving down Forest Park and Henderson was like driving through a war zone.  The river levies and grass areas along the streets were littered with all sorts of debris.  All of the trees that were left standing were stripped of their leaves.  Our warehouse had minimal damage.  Large parts of the gravel and tar roof were peeled off and we had far worse water damage from the torrential rains that fell the next weekend.  It's hard to believe it was 17 years ago and it was a miracle that more people weren't killed.  If it had happened an hour earlier, the human toll might have been far greater.

If it had happened a half hour earlier, it would have gotten me!

Yep.

My power went off for a few minutes at about 2 am.  I got up and checked the weather, saw the solid line of T-storms was just about upon us, saw no warnings and went back to bed.  A few minutes after that, the tornado siren went off and there was a tornado warning on my phone for Benbrook which is just a few miles away.  I got up again, checked the weather on the computer but also turned on the TV.  By then the rotating Doppler image was already in the TCU area.  I watched TV a little longer until I was satisfied the tornado (or whatever it was) was not moving toward me, and went to bed.  Ho hum.
