Last night there was a public meeting at Travis Avenue BC regarding a proposed Southside Community Center. I was unable to attend, but I called Joel Burns' office today and left a message about getting the minutes of the meeting. Kristi Wiseman, his aide called me back not only to verify my email address, but also to give me a brief overview of what was discussed.
She told me the city has around $2 million to build the center, and that building on the site of Rosemont Park will save on the cost of acquiring land, since it is already owened by the city.
Additionally, FWISD wants to have a piece of this. Basically, if the school district is allowed to use the center for children during school hours, FWISD will contribute an additional $15 million for construction.
That's really all I know now. I am waiting on a presentation (I don't know if it's Powerpoint or video) that was shown last night to come in my email.
Edit: Just opened the file. It is a series of maps of all the proposed sites. Also edited to add Kristi Wiseman's name.
