I was wondering, was there any photos of the skyline in the 80's when all current skyscrapers were added one by one? I mean I've seen skyline photos of Fort Worth when the Landmark Tower (clock on top) was the tallest and a 70's pic of when Bank One Tower was completed and was the only glass tower. I dunno in what order they (carter-burgers, dr horton, etc) went up, but I've always seen pictures of all of them together. The only known pic I've seen of a construction photo is this one of City Center...

Would of been awesome if the rest of the skyline could be seen in it.
I sure would like to see photos of the transforming of downtown FW in the 80's if there are any happy.gif

The three tallest went up between 83' and 84'. Now that you mention it, I dont recall ever seeing photos during that time period.. Let me do some digging. p.s. what are the rules on here? If I find some photos that aren't mine, Can I still post them on here?

Yes. North of the Pour House. Between Pour House and Sanger Lofts. (East of The Tower)

^^^ Whoa that was awesome! Thanks for that link!
I knew the current skyline didn't all just go up over night in the 80's wink.gif

I started this thread because I've looked at old photos and books about the history of Fort Worth and they all show how the skyline changed over the decades. Then the typical happens, the chapters about the 80's thru the 21st century and BAM!....The skyline we all know is shown. Then I'd go google "1980's Fort Worth skyline" or similar search phrases and the same skyline over and over. John's photo I used in the first post was the ONLY one I've ever seen until eshigginbotham's youtube link.

If I can ever find the time to dig out my old slides, I could probably show you some good progress shots. I know that I photographed each major building going up on a nearly weekly basis, but I don't know how many skyline photos I took during that time period. Even though the buildings did not go up "overnight", they were constructed within a relatively short period of time. Here's a good way to look at this. Demolition of Stripling's was done in 1979 and as soon as the site was cleared, they started construction of City Center Tower I. Groundbreaking on Tower II took place soon afterwards. The construction on this building went slower, because they did not have any tenants signed. Carter+Burgess Plaza was the next to break ground around 1980, and that was followed by Burnett Plaza in 1981. All buildings were complete by 1983, but City Center Tower II was not opened until 1984 due to no tenants. I think the building sat nearly completed for about one year. All four buildings were "technically" under construction at the same time, but City Center Tower I was nearly open by the time Burnett Plaza came out of the ground, so there were not four sets of cranes on the skyline at once. Another way to look at the construction schedule is that I think all four of the 1980's skyscrapers held title as the city's tallest building for a brief period, while they were under construction.

The funny thing about this, to me, is that Bayard Friedman's bit was shot from TCOM, not TCU. Heh.
