Does anyone know what the Uncle Julio's building on Camp Bowie was used for prior to it being an Uncle Julio's location? According to their Web site they opened in 1986. The building is obviously much older. Thanks!

My memory may be some what fuzzy. As far as I know the building has been julios from the start. Before they expanded the freeway Champlin petroleum, Quick Draw(deli/bar) and another bar across the street from Quick Draw on the same side of Camp Bowie were there. Some one else may be able to fill in from here.

A quick check of historicaerials.com shows that this building did not exist in 1979.

The building that was on the site before the early 1980's was the old Champlin Petroleum Co. It was demolished in the early 1980's to build the I-30 expansion at Camp Bowie. For several years, the site was vacant until they built Uncle Julio's from the ground up.

I remember that it was built as Uncle Julio's. It was built to look like a shack.

I remember a Strip Club being over there. I think it was called "La Bare" for women. Does anyone remember that?

I thought it was the "Crystal Pistol", I mean, that's what I remember when I was 10.

There was strip club there in 1981-2 called The Egyptian. They had a very casual attitude toward age verification as I remember.

Say, I vaguely remember that glass building! Wasn't there a hair styling place there? (I can't remember the name) I was probably in junior high, and just about flipped over this "barber shop" whose employees all seemed to be young girls... woo hoo!

The hair place was the Razors Edge in the early '70s. I quite going there in '74 so I don't know if the name changed before the building was torn down.

The Golden Fin was originally located off the West Freeway, Camp Bowie, and Hervie St.
