I had to get a few shots in while I was at Mayfest. Good to see it going up.

Now, about that other corner of University & W. 7th...

You are so right!  This intersection is just about the most confusing (with the longest red lights, of course) of any in Fort Worth for motorists.  Would a "traffic circle" be an improvement?

I think a traffic circle would be an improvement.

I guess I should have asked, "how would a traffic circle be an improvement?"  I know this is a topic of another thread, but it's pertinent because of increased economic development around this intersection, the new Eyeworks building included.

For one thing it would reduce the confusion on "which left turn lane do I need to be in" for cars turning off northbound University onto Bailey, 7th (going west), or Camp Bowie.   Seems like there's always cars turning from different lanes onto the same street, and lots of chances for collisions.

Come to think of it this intersection is confusing no matter which direction you come from.  A roundabout is a lot simpler to get through.

Don't remember where, but I posted something about a roundabout for this intersection that was proposed by some firm.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that it came back up in this topic.

There has been a roundabout proposed for this intersection for quite some time.  You might want to search the forum for the topic.  I'm thinking this might be from 2004 or 2005.

Definitely further back than that, more like 2000-2001. I believe the downturn in the economy after 9/11 caused Anne Marion to withdraw her donation that would have paid for most of the project.

Well however long they've thought of making it a roundabout, it's long past due.

That's a horrible intersection.

I'm with you in that people are always turning onto the wrong street from there, but honestly the signage is very clear.  You get in one turn lane for Bailey and the other for 7th or Camp Bowie.  It astonishes me that so many people screw this up.

If anyone is interested, the crane has FAA clearance to be 144 ft tall and operate for 4 months.

How would pedestrians navigate a circle?

And, I actually don't think that the lights are too long considering the size of the intersection.  I use it every day.

4 months is up and the crane is down. That's gotta be one of the shortest spans of time for a tower crane like that? Anyway, the building is topped out and almost completely framed up.

It's a north facing wall of windows...think about that for a second.

In the summer, close to the solstice, the sun will be north of east and west at sunrise and sunset. I have north facing windows that get sunlight that time of year.

It's a nice complement to the Museum Place building across the street.  Now if that flippin' shopping center could go away...

That strip center, IMHO is the perfect spot for a hotel.

All of those signal lights are unsightly to say the least; just imagine how cool this spot would be if the plan for a traffic circle and fountain had materialized.  IMO, it still begs for that plan!

Could I add the print shop on 6th and the dismal office buildings on 5th. All of those blocks could be developed into office/retail/hotel.

Not just your opinion. That place would certainly be perfect for a hotel.

So I had a thought...

25114331085_ecb278c07f_b.jpg

What if we made a more oblong-shaped roundabout? Would that work? I'm no engineer, but if it could happen, I'd say make it happen. Build it into the current strip mall and create space for a hotel or residential building.

Roundabout
Space
Entry/ exit into and out of roundabout
Hotel (University section 4-5 stories, West 7th St. section 3 floors)
3 level garage

Jeriat's proposal is a worthwhile discussion; may I suggest we move it over to the Cultural District Roundabout thread?

Sounds like a bar might go in the top level - could be a really cool space especially with how much is outdoors.

At nighttime, has anybody else noticed a gyrating, multi colored, tree shaped light display inside the top floor of this bldg ?
Perhaps this is for the top floor bar ?

Yes. Which is pretty interesting given that it's an office building.
