Last week I spoke with an AT&T Uverse technician. He told me that AT&T has started placing its fiber optic infrastructure in the DFW Metroplex.  He mentioned that they are working in older neighborhoods that currently use fiber out to a neighborhood hub then last mile copper to Uverse customer homes.  The last mile will change over to fiber optics.  The July 2014 AT&T public announcement mentioned that pricing will be offered to customers by the end of 2014.

They are also working Austin and San Antonio to convert to fiber.

Initial internet connections will be up to 1 gigabit per second (100mbps).  No word on estimated pricing.

Their plan will be called "GigaPower".  ATT information  http://www.att.com/a...igapowercities/

Update:  AT&T crews are placing fiber optic cabling now in the Fort Worth Wedgwood area (south outside loop).  A week ago they were pulling fiber from utility pole to pole overlaying their copper phone lines.  Few days ago we saw crews removing old copper lines.  AT&T rep told me the fiber will go to individual homes.

Residential Gigabit speeds ( up to 1000 mbps)  should be operational in next 3 to 4 months.  AT&T Home installations would probably take 4 to 6 hours each.

The att link in my first comment still works...

UPdate 9 April 2018.  South side Fort Worth in Wedgwood area outside of the 820 loop.

While walking around the block today I noticed an ATT utility truck with a small white trailer parked at utility pole. A black coil of fiber draped down and PLUGGED INTO THE little WHITE TRAILER.  This is starting to look serious.

I did have a very friendly informative conversation with the ATT Rep.   He said that they were testing the connected fiber lines. There are over 600 fiber Wedgwood residential drops in place.  There are only two internet speeds slowest 100 mbps  and the fastest is 1000 mbps.  Internet, Uverse TV programming and phone come into your home on fiber.  Copper wire is removed.   IF you are offered less than 100mpbs  then your service is NOT Fiber.  DIRECT TV is satellite dish.  He figures they will be another month and half [read MAY 2018] before they lite up the system.

OK  ATT when your ready.... I am ready   :swg:

As a part of getting ready....  we are upgrading our Cat5 Local Area Network cabling to Cat6 which will support the 10/100/1000 NIC cards and 8 port Netgear HUB switch.

While in BB store bought Cat6 25' SKU 8 313 083 for $7.99 each.  Includes free 2 day home delivery.

May 2 2018

Same utility pole we have been visiting... to date, we watched ATT folks string fiber pole to pole down the easement; the fiber has been tested (small white trailer) out to this point.

Not sure what this is but now this pole has a new device coiled up.

We are up grading our internet connection from 24 mbps to FIBER Optic 1000 mbps next Wednesday 11 July 2018.  Its only taken 2 years to get to this point.  AT&T has finally come through !  YeaH   TEAM !

We are in the Wedgewood East community.  Seems the fiber had already been placed on poles and tested only were waiting on their ATT website for public pricing.  We are going with ATT Uverse and Fiber.

Its a good day today !   Will post later next week pictures of the install process.

After contacting and making a complaint with ATT customer service, we're having an upgrade of our internet connection to FO 1000, Tuesday July 10.

In addition, ATT is lowering our current monthly bill and is eliminating the equipment leasing fee. Wowzeee!

How did your FO 1000 install work out ?

AND you must have hollered real loud.  What did you do to get the leasing fee reduced ?

Way better than I had expected.  We have a Mid-century Ranch home, complete with copper tubing and plumbing, built in 1959. The fiber entered the house through the attic and dropped down a tubing designed to handle wiring to the telecommunication outlets. The existing modem that had been issued to us was a model that is capable of 1000? so it needed not to be replaced.

AT&T, as I understand, no longer charges an equipment fee of its customers.

Thanks for your information

We ordered FO1000 /Uverse plan.  And as I understand ... equipment fees are only for remote WI-Fi connections to bedroom and kitchen.  Router and main box in TV room is included 0$ in plan.

Our existing router is a Motorola NVG589 with top speed of 300 mbps so it should be replaced.  Our internal local area 5 device network is already running Cat 6 cables and Gigabit speed.

FO/1000 order was placed 6 July.  ATT has experienced "technical issues" and the install date(s) have been delayed 3 times.  Now scheduled Monday 23 July 2018. AND we are waiting.

For those already on FO/1000 mbps but can't seem to get over 100 GBps it might be because your desktop computer's network interface card  (NIC) driver is set to "auto-negotiate" or your NIC card needs to be replaced with a faster card.

On a PC you can check your driver by going to your Device Manager and checking your device driver.

Select on the Network Adapter (NIC card) then click the /Advance tab\   then in left column click Speed and Duplex setting | which may already display "Auto-Negotiate"  then choose item "1.0 Gigabit".  If Gigabit is not on list then you might need to update your driver.
