Last weekend it was smoke out of California. This weekend it is rain. (not to complain) Except. When is a guy supposed to take his pictures? Well, I can come up with 2 here that are not ready for National Geographic but it is all I can come up with.

I normally cannot see much Trinity River to the Due East. But I can today.

Trinity River, of course it would be muddy at this point, but pretty full.

And more rain coming from the East. (Lake Arlington/ Handley Power plant.)

Getting ready to wash windows on the second tallest building in the County. For three years I have been wanting to catch that first step over the side. It is hard to do because those guys hang out up there for an hour or two first checking their lines etc... (big babies)
I finally did catch the first moment of going over this morning.

Some contemplating pre-work

My wife quit her job a few months ago. (she calls herself retired, I call her unemployed)

While looking out the window today (Oprah was a re-run?) she noticed these guys on the TCC Crane.
I was pretty impressed. She even screwed on my 400mm lens.

The first shot is through the window. (She is afraid to go on the balcony)

She then opens a window and takes another pic.

53° this morning shows some moisture and steam. Bright morning sun with long shadows. I like.

You see the clean banks on the Trinity River in the back of this shot? That's where my wife and I picked up trash Saturday at the Trinty River Trash Bash. Was really a very satisfying 3 hours.

A half hour before sunrise Saturday Morning on Lancaster Avenue.

This is not a bad case of Photoshop abuse. Sky was purple.

Really strange parallel clouds on the left here. Very unusual. That is an 18 wheel truck flying through at ½ second exposure.

I am guessing this is called the Main Street Viaduct? Heading out of Downtown on South Main. That is a city bus to the left.
I can't remember if that was a bus going 30mph at ½ second exposure or a bus going 60mph at ¼ exposure.

A pair of Red Tail Hawks working the Downtown area. (and as fat as the one is, I would say they are getting plenty to eat.) Big, fast, and furious hunters. ie,. I did not see any grackles around this afternoon. Guessing these two are mates though I did not actual pull any census questions on them.

From my drizzly balcony.

Both Hawks. (high and low)

In the distance. (Fog and rain in the distance.) Do wonder where that McDonald's is...

Also in the distance. That is Catholic Charities back there.

Nice shot, I have been noticing more Hawks this past year. I wouldn't have thought they would frequent downtown but after noticing all the cover in the last shot I guess there is plenty of small targets for them. I have several feeders in the back yard and on several occasions have seen a dove taken captive by a hawk - just natures cycle I guess.
Hate to tell you this monee, but if you start shooting birds in flight your going to start looking at bigger lenses and when you go up from your 400 it's a BIG $$$ jump. unsure.gif

You are right about that papaw. Particularly on a cloudy day. Had to run my ISO way up to get any kind of speed at all to my shutter.
I would like to play for a weekend with some of those $K lenses. Like a good 800 etc... Do you remember a few months ago I decided I was going to get one those big beasts instead of my new telescope? $120,000. (Canon 1200mm) Never for me. Even if I had money to throw away I would give it away before I spent that kind of money. For one reason, the fear of damaging it would exceed my joy of using it. BTW I was guessing they were $20k. I figured what the heck. My 400 5.6L was like $1400 so three times that would be...

My 2x works pretty good on my 400 but as you know has some real limitations. Like Canon cameras don't do auto-focus for apertures smaller than 5.6 so it is all manual focus. So I put it all on my cheap tripod, do the triple size image on my live-view screen and then try to focus as my camera is still shaking. In fact it is really impossible because at 800mm the movement of me focusing the lenses throws so much movement into my camera that I then can't focus. Add to that, your time is limited so your camera doesn't overheat. (Live view only works for 30 seconds before it shuts you down.) So I do see myself getting an 800 at some point.

If I had to guess, I would say this area is in a flood plain.

Was glad I saw these guys working outside my condo this morning. I would hate to think I would have blamed my wife for those big footprints on the outside of my glass. (They were caulking) Because I live on the 34th floor and it is 12 instead of 10' high, they had to hang down from the roof rather than use a step-ladder as they did on the other floors.

I thought I was going to get a picture of these guys working from the outside as I drove to work but they had gone inside leaving their ropes and equipment.

Why thank you R/J. This is my therapy for a pretty boring job. However in my next life...

And it wouldn't be Saturday morning if I was not out on my balcony taking shots of Dallas with my wife assuring me that without my slippers there is a 96% chance I will acquire H1N1. (cripes, a Hummer?)

I took this shot yesterday morning. It is a plane landing at DFW in a 30 second exposure before sunrise.
(Yes I missed the last couple of seconds. Tough timing with changing light conditions as I did not know how long the exposure was going to be for sure nor how long for the plane to touch down.) But I am on to this. Stand by...

2009 Trinity River Mud Run event. Some kind of race in the mud/water. A really big event. (Based on the cars in the La Grave Field parking lot) Sure seems to me like it would really tear up the river banks. I try to not even walk on the grass as it does not want to be compacted. I never walk on grass if there are sidewalks. They say surely never drive on grass, particularly under trees as you damage their roots. I do like oxygen for sure.

Seeing a little Fall color all of the sudden.

Both shots with my 70-200mm

Saw this at a cemetery in Arlington yesterday when I was at a funeral. Amber Hagerman. For those of you 20 year olds, she was a little girl brutally kidnapped and killed in Arlington. Eventually resulting in the Nationwide system, AMBER ALERT. They found her body days later in a creek wearing only a single sock.

The guy who did this is in line next to you at Kroger. Was never caught. Chances are this was not his first or last. Chances are he has been in jail and let out. And should not have been.

Hard to believe it has been 13 years since that happend. So sad and that some low life is still out there. I can't help to think her poor mother has to think about the incident everytime the Amber alert goes off.

Sorry to go off-topic, but your comment about changing colors reminds me of my grandmother's Christmas tree in the mid-60s, made of aluminum. It was lighted by a light source with a rotating wheel of colors. She bought it because one of my cousins was allergic to real trees. I made fun of it (and him) at the time, but I remember that it was really modern at the time.

I used to have a big cat cage for my kitty to go on my balcony. She got out many times and laughed at me. For the last several months we have just let her out on either balcony . It seems as though she is not going to jump the 34 floors to chase an inferior dog. (She is big, has her claws and is the dumbest cat I have ever known) She is pretty stink'n sweet tho. She sure loves these nice days.

Here she is guarding my tripod. (BTW those flowers are her wilderness) It is all relative you see.

Several years ago I saw one of those cars on a frontage road over in Grand Prairie. Seemed out of place sitting there. The driver was standing outside the car near the door.

Not sure where the engine is in one of these 'racy' type cars. A lift panel [engine hood ?] was open and there was a white vapor rising up into the air. I can only guess .....

I have seen an orange Gallardo on the track at Motorsport Ranch, I wonder if this is the same car. The only pic I have access too right now from that day, is only from the front/side, and there is no front plate.

The engine is mid chassis mounted on this machine, behind the driver.

From my balcony 5 minutes ago. Of course we have all been watching this blimp for 4 days. Yesterday as I walked to Montgomery Plaza I felt like the blimp was following me. I think because the winds have been so light this craft has done double duty. I would love to go up in one.

Live downtown awhile, a nice loud hum like that will lull you right to sleep.
