Wow this is a treasure trove! 

I'd never seen the pictures of Casino Beach. Really cool. Would love to see it resurrected.  

 

Downtown was a terrible looking place at the time. Surface parking seemed far worse then. Yikes! Sundance Is really been an amazing change. The Omni really made a big difference along Throck/ Houston and the Skyline. Cool to see the Watergardens back then, I think that place only gets more special as the trees age and grow. Is there Tennis courts on top of the D.R. Horton garage? 

What was the name of the building that shared a lot with First Christian Church along 5th? Any closeups? 

This area is just amazing. So thankful for the positive changes that have happened here. 

 

Is there a theme park to the left of this picture? In particular, the blue and yellow structure right at the edge. Looks like a slide or perhaps a coaster.

Back in the 1970's, downtown was pretty sad.  Slowly, the parking lots that once had buildings on them, have been refilled with new buildings.

 

When the first parking garage was built, it did have a tennis court on top.  Later, it was removed and replaced with parking.  There were two buildings on the north side of the First Christian Church.  The smaller one was the old Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce Building.  There are pictures in the Jack White Collection.  The 7 story one, was the First Christian Church Education Building.  It was built in 1928, and was designed by the same architects as the church.  It had a gymnasium on the top floor, a swimming pool, a kitchen, and classrooms.  The church sold the building in 1984, and it was demolished in 1990.  I'm trying to find some photographs.

 

Before the redevelopment along West 7th, there were automobile dealerships and industrial buildings.

 

There was a paddle boat pavilion and miniature golf course on the Trinity River where the Woodshed is now built.  It wasn't really an amusement park because the site was too small.

I was going to try to find some photos.  As I said, the Jack White Collection has some pictures of it.  I do know of where there is a photo of the First Christian Church Education Building.  It's on Historic Fort Worth's Historic Building Survey, but you are required to have an HFW membership to see it.

Austin, your two pictures are not from a different angle.  The building was remodeled after the Chamber of Commerce moved out.  I tried to find the photos in the Jack White Collection, but I'm having trouble locating them.
