It was Kansas City bikeshare who they acquired the new stations after KC's system went dockless. The new stations are being stored in a lot next to Trinity Metro's new HQ. This is going to be a huge expansion, looks like 25+ new stations. I think they have about 40 right now.

I've heard nothing about where they may be going, but 25+ new stations would certainly be a HUGE reinvestment in the system.

Do you know if bikes for these new stations are stored elsewhere or if Trinity Metro/B-Share will need to find capital to purchase new bikes before the stations can be redeployed?

Timing of this topic couldn't be better. Capital Metro in Austin began rebranding their BCycle program to 'MetroBike' this week after the agency took over operations last year (https://austin.bcycl...ed-as-metrobike).

Los Angeles County's Metro already has their BCycle program branded within their system as 'Metro Bike Share' to match other services (https://bikeshare.metro.net/).

Both transit agencies, along with METRO in Harris County, use a consistently recognizable name for public transit and have shared brands for different services that incorporate their system name: local bus (MetroBus/METRO Local), high-frequency (MetroRapid), commuter (MetroExpress/Metro Busway/METRORapid) paratransit (MetroAccess/METROLift), on-demand (Metro Micro) and rail (MetroRail/METRORail).

It'd be great to see Trinity Metro rebrand the BCycle system here as part of the larger agency as well. The lack of branding for local and express buses, and stand-alone branding for premium services like The Dash, TEXRail, ZIPZone, etc. could easily follow these others with Trinity MetroBike, Trinity MetroRail, Trinity MetroRapid, etc.

Elsewhere around the world, "Metro Rail" refers to grade-separated, closed system heavy rail lines... not commuter rail lines on freight tracks.

It bothers me when U.S. transit agencies brand rail lines that aren't Metro Rail as "Metro Rail." This includes Houston's street-corridor light rail lines and Austin's freight corridor commuter rail line. Trinity Metro brands its rail line as "Trinity Metro TEXRail," which is more appropriate than "Trinity Metro Rail" would be.

Trinity Metro already has services called "Trinity Metro TEXRail" and "Trinity Metro ZipZone," so I could see something like "Trinity Metro B-Cycle."

selfishly would like to see a couple go to gateway park, think one at each entrance would make sense now that they have expansion to Race St, and would make the one at Oakland and Randol Mill less of an island.

I also think there would be merit in adding one to the NorthSide Station as a last mile option for tourist over to the stock yards.  Not sure how egress would work but a decent trail for a half mile right to stockyards could help that, or the mile and meet up at 23rd st.  In general I think they could use one further north along the trinity trails, maybe at Northside and the trail?

Then I would love to see a couple move out west.  I think the Riverside area where Heim and Salsa Limon have gone in would make sense.  Rockwood park could be a good fit, and Airfield Falls would make a nice couple of stops.  We have used them a handful of times for a Sunday Funday, and think getting out to those spots would be an easy enjoyable ride.

Finally amazed there aren't a couple at destinations like properly at the Zoo or Dickies.

A lot of times when I travel I have used these as a cheap option around town, From San Jose, Baltimore, Charleston and few others, seems like destination services could be a good way to grow in the central part of the city.  Make it a true alternative.  because I can say riding my bike directly into Levi stadium and not having to walk a couple extra blocks or pay the $100 parking was the best way ever to get to an NFL game

These places don't want you riding a bike to their venues. They want you driving your car so they can force you to pay their exorbitant parking rates. Witness every year the Stock Show when they shut down the closest Bcycle stations to the event under the pretext of "scaring the animals."

Wow, hadn't realized that. Super-ridiculous.

So we've got this whole cultural district and a single station far on the north end by Kimbell. SMH

I think a few stations north of the Stockyards would be good.  Maybe one at Buck Samson Park and at Marine Creek Lake.

At Hulen and Camp Bowie two of Trinity Metro's business bus routes intersect (Route 2 and Route 25).

The Walgreens there already has EV charging stations.

While I personally would like to see a b-share go there, I can't see how it'd fit the larger network of stations or riding options. womp-womp

is the plan eventually the trail extends all the way up the lake past the parks? if so that would be a good extension in my opinion.

SCHMJDT, could you be more specific on asking about where the plans are to extend the trail?  Which lake and past which parks.  If you give me more information, I might be able to answer about the trail extension.

of course . . . Is the plan to extend the portion of the trail that ends at Buck Samson Park all the way up to Marine Creek Reservoir? Not sure there is a good option to get past 820 right now?

Likewise on the West Fork of the Trinity I would be ecstatic if the trail someday reached Marion Samson park the mountain bike trails up there .  I know you can get through on city streets, but think it would be much appreciated if it connected directly.

There are plans to extend the Marine Creek Trail past Buck Sansom Park all the way up to Marine Creek Reservoir, where there is already a 6 mile loop trail around the lake.  I'm not sure how the trail will get past Loop 820, so I will have to look for the maps.  I could easily see the trail stopping at the service road or at the parking lot of the QuikTrip, forcing the cyclist on Marine Creek Parkway, and then back on the service road to connect to the park entrance ant to the trail around the lake.

On the West Fork Trail, there are plans to connect from the current end of the trail at Meandering Road up to Marion Sansom Park.  This portion will go through Camp Carter, and I understand that some of that has already been completed.  I don't know if you have been up there, but a paved section of trail now starts at the end of Inspiration Lane in River Oaks and goes through Marion Sansom Park.  It ends at Cahoba Drive and then picks up again fairly soon and ends at Arrow S. Park.  That park is at Loop 820 and Cahoba Drive.  Long range plans call to extend the trail all the way around the southern part of Lake Worth, except for the portion where the NASJRB is located.  The last time I rode this section of the trail was on May 10, 2020 and there were quite a few missing sections at that time between Meandering Road and Arrow S. Park.  I am planning to ride both sections of trail again this year, but I haven't been riding much an I'm out of shape.  Both routes are 40+ miles round trip from my house in South Fort Worth.

dfwmaps.com has a fairly good representation of the existing trails and planned extensions.  However, I have noticed that what has been built so far is a little different in several places from the original planned routing.  To get a look at the trails, you have to click the eye in the Transportation tab and then click on the eye under the subheading of Trails.  I did find a more accurate plan for the connection to Marion Sansom Park and Lake Worth on the City's website.

Poor Kansas City.  They're about to be overrun with random bikes everywhere.  They, like Dallas, will learn that if you don't make people put their toys back into the toy box, they will leave them strewn everywhere.

Right, but how about a reasonable trail between Buck and MCL?  Riding Angle Ave/Marine Creek Pkwy can be a harrowing experience.

I would be interested in seeing some stations pushing south along Hemphill to complement the new bike lanes.

As a very long time cyclist and Former President of the Fort Worth Bicycling Association, I think that the connection between Buck Sansom Park and Marine Creek Lake should be one of the highest priorities for the Trinity Trail System.  Riding on Marine Creek Parkway is extremely hazardous because of the traffic and the terrible condition of the road.  Even though I threw in my former position with the FWBA, I want to say that I am NOT speaking for the club in this situation.

My guess for the reason that this connection is not completed is that the TRWD and/or the City of Fort Worth do not own the land required for the connection.

Exactly John, I really took to cycling since moving back to FW in 2015 and I first started my journey on B-Cycle bikes.  I would take a bike from Downtown to the Stockyards to reset the time at the docking station and would ride up to Buck Samson and back.  When they finished the loop around MCL I tried taking it all the way up there but after getting onto Marine Creek Pkwy I quickly retreated back to BSP.  I have done it on my personal bike but it is a harrowing experience IMO that many casual cyclists would be hard pressed to take on.

After being hit by a car while riding my bicycle on January 17, 2016, my level of cycling has not resumed to where it was before the accident.  However, around 6 months after the accident, I started to ride again.  At first, I drove to a friend's house who lived a few blocks off the trail.  We then rode just the trail.  Eventually, we did a few rides on city streets, but not too often.  After the Marine Creek Lake Trail was completed, we decided to ride it from his house.  It was the hottest Saturday of the summer, and it was further than we remembered to Buck Sansom Park, but we decided to ride it, anyway.  I was surprised by the traffic on Marine Creek Parkway and it did scare me.  (I'm still gun shy about riding on the city streets.) I was also surprised about how many pot holes and major cracks that we had to dodge in the concrete pavement.  The ride was 40 miles total, but it was fun to ride the new section of trail.  We tried it again on a Sunday a few months later, and that did help with the traffic.

It sounds like they are focusing on minority and college areas, which is great.

Another note, the Sundance station has been removed. Lotta changes there.

The list shows 13 stations and the Map shows 14.  I guess they forgot to add it to the list.  It looks like that is Riverside Park.  That is my best guess since it looks like it is West of Sylvania and South of Yucca but North of Belknap and east of The Trinity.

It looks to close to Sylvania to me to be Riverside Park. I wonder if they got one of the new apartment complexes along the bluffs to sponsor one? But again, maybe it fell thru and that's why it's not the list.

I'm not sure how you can really tell that it is too close, I couldn't zoom in enough to determine that... I also looked on the Trinity Metro Packet from the link Austin posted and it isn't any clearer there.  If it isn't at Riverside Park then I'm sure it is tied to one of the newer apartment complexes.

Kellis Park!  BShare comes to South Hills!  :)

I had mentioned that to them in an email a couple of years back when I rode BShare from Woodshed through Tanglewood to Foster Park...  I got there and realized I didn't have much time left but thought that most people who did BShare would enjoy the ride.  I had to high tail it back from Foster Park up Trail Lake to the station at Berry and University so I wouldn't get charged more time.

In my email I mentioned Foster Park and Kellis park and they said they would consider it down the road but it just wasn't feasible at the time.

I received a surprise this morning as I was on a walk around my neighborhood.  I noticed that they have installed a new station at Northside Park and also discovered this afternoon that another one is now in Marine Park both on the Historic Northside.  I did not see either of those stations proposed for the area but I am really excited that one is within 2 blocks of my home.  It will make for an easy drive down to the Stockyards as well as being able to take one all the way to Waterside from my neighborhood.

I have been riding Bike Share daily since the weather took a dip earlier this month and I have noticed that there are way fewer electric bikes in the system.  I typically ride the e-bikes because for me it is mainly about being outside and enjoying an easy bike ride without being drenched in sweat.   I rode to 5 stations yesterday and none of them had electric bikes.  The same thing happened on Tues but the 2 e-bikes I did come across the Turbo function did not turn on.  Are they slowly phasing these out of the system?  I was also wondering if people are stealing the batteries which is why they are being removed or maybe the extreme heat from July and Aug damaged the batteries.    At any rate, it is a bit of a disappointment that there are very few e-bikes.

Some big changes coming to Bikeshare. This from the Trinity Metro Board Meeting agenda.

PBSC Urban Solutions systems are in many U.S. cities, including Chicago, D.C. and Pittsburgh. Like the existing system, they offer ebikes, regular bikes and even scooters in the dock system.

A very unfortunate and wasteful turn of events. Trashing the entire system and bringing in a new one. That’s gotta offset a ton of the environmental benefits that the system generated. Not great.

The tech is over 10 years old.  If you get more than 7-8 years out of a tech system you're ahead of the game.  It kind of seems strange if they have to replace all the bikes; I would think they could probably do a tech upgrade for any of the enhancements required by the system, but I guess it might be cheaper to just get new production bicycles than to try to source parts for bikes provided by a different company.

I often pass bike renters on the trails and some of those bikes sound horrible.  Mellow Johnny's was doing maintenance on them, I haven't noticed anyone lately fiddling with the bikes though.

Bike Share have staff that maintain the bikes.  I know some of those guys.  One of them can build a new wheel in, like, a half hour; I've seen him do it for a BCycle bike.
