Finally getting to announce another Championship Event coming to the arena.

this will be the same event we hosted in 2021.  The US Championship, and this will set the invites to the Olympic trials before the Paris Olympics.

Billboard Magazine has named Dickies Arena as the #1 Venue in the World for a capacity between 10,000 and 15,000.  This award was for gross revenue.

I believe there were #1 in the US, #2 worldwide, last year (#1 was in Germany).  So I guess they passed the German arena.

Each event averages 8,400 people in attendance.  In come cases there's probably sellout crowd while in other are just a couple thousand, but on the whole that seems pretty robust.  Another way to look at it, is that they fill it completely a bit more than once per week.

I'm assuming that total doesn't include sports events either, so things like Panther City Lacrosse and of course the rodeo aren't in that list.

I've yet to go to a concert there.  Are the shows using all of the seating or are some screening off seats behind the stage?  I went to Disney on Ice at the AAC about 10 years ago or so and they screened off both ends of the arena for their shows.

It wasn't a concert, but my son and I saw Dude Perfect at the arena this summer.  A stage was set up on one side with the seats behind the stage curtained off.

That picture represents how most of the concerts are set up.

I guess this is the real estate development market's way of telling us that Dickies (and the rest of the cultural district) does not yet generate sufficient year-round foot traffic to support vibrant, walkable whatever on the west side of Montgomery. Although, if a new hotel really is built one block south at 2050 Montgomery, maybe the situation will change ...

I was thinking also that with an ATM / parking lot, that certainly preserves the land for future use while generating revenue in the meantime.

Yes, in that sense this development is better than nothing!

Sort-of related: For large events at Dickies, someone usually puts up an ugly temporary pedestrian fence to prevent jaywalking across Montgomery. The fence runs all the way from Harley down to Bryce. The fence sits on the grass strip typically right up against the curb, along this red line:

I think someone should:

1) Install an attractive permanent fence in the same location, and

2) Install a signalized crosswalk or signalized intersection at Bryce.

With these two improvements, pedestrians will be deterred from jaywalking in front of Dickies (for example, to this new ATM) and will have two visible, safe alternatives to cross at Harley and Bryce. Also, note that a hypothetical new hotel at 2050 Montgomery would sit right at Bryce too, making at least improvement #2 critical to protect hotel pedestrians.

the other big problem the fence is trying to solve is people who use ride share and trying to get their cars to stop along montgomery, instead of going to the pick up are on harley.  we were seeing tons of people jumping out in traffic trying to get to cars that were going both directions, and had a serious car vs pedestrian incident right infront of taco heads a couple months back.

As someone who drove for Uber several years ago, that's a problem at every event venue and customers are always to going to find work arounds.  At AT&T stadium, they always tried to push ride share into a single area and people would routinely walk further our to get to get out of the surge pricing areas.

That's interesting! Do you think a permanent fence is a good idea, or is a temporary fence better for some reason (besides being cheaper, I suppose)?
