Austin had mentioned in another thread that Del Frisco's would be updating its exterior by adding a canopy with street-level and second-level patio seating.  Well, it looks like the work has begun.

Here is a "before" shot:

And, here are two recent photos showing the work.  They pulled off the overhang that was over the front door and they had an industrial-strength auger out there the other day, presumably boring holes for the canopy.  It looked like the pavers were all demoed as well.

I'm sure they are drilling piers to support the new canopy.  It also makes sense that the contractor would remove all of the pavers, either for replacement with a new material, or to be placed back under the canopy.

It would be nice if the building behind would get a power wash or paint job to.

Being downtown Saturday morning, I saw all the work going on too.  It was already getting hot and steamy. I like the idea of more canopy and shade in downtown with water vapor misty...I loved the outdoor deck at the old Pour House on 5th Street; very comfortable.  Kudos to all those wonderful trees downtown.

Yeah; I too wish they would restore the Century Plaza building.

This is off topic, but if you want to see how the Century Plaza Building originally looked, go to this thread in the forum: http://www.fortworth...nolds building"

Thanks for sharing that John, had not seen that picture yet. A shame for sure, especially how bad the giant marble slab facing 8th is today.
Was the Del Frisco's building constructed the way it looks today? I notice in that link you shared that there is a building slightly taller than century plaza behind it where Del Frisco's is today. Is there a page here with more information on that building?

Isn't the Del Frisco's building one of those downtown that has been burned and reconstructed shorter a few times?

Del Frisco's is the remains of the Wheat Building.  From what I can tell, I think only the basement is original.

Couldn't this sort of treatment be done to the lower two floors of the ATT Building, with a club or restaurant there to cater to the Convention Center crowd?

Not sure I like how this plan narrows the sidewalk.

You sure about that? It seems that the sidewalk will be the same. Only difference would be the French Quarter deck.

Can't confirm this (maybe someone else can), but I assume the first floor of the Omni's garage is retail space. It sure looks like is anyway.

I figure something would pop up there soon (given it's size and proximity to T&P/The Tower/Omni resi/houston lofts/upcoming lancaster aptmts) it'd make a fantastic location for a CVS or the like or a small grocer.

If/when retail comes to that location it'd be helpful.

Will you be able to walk under it? From the renderings, it looks like there's railings on both floors.

The balcony at Del Frisco's will be similar to the one at the old Pour House.  However, from the renderings it does appear that you will only be able to walk under it on 8th Street and the area on Main, where there is a wider sidewalk, will have outdoor seating directly below the 2nd level.  Austin55, the first floor of the Municipal Parking Garage on both the Houston Street and Throckmorton Street facades are designed for ground floor retail.

Pretty sure you can.

I may have to get a better view, though...

FYI - they actually have the frame up around Del Frisco's...saw it today.  And, they didn't demo all the pavers; just the ones around the piers.  They seem to be making quick progress.

Hopefully, the end result will be prettier than it looks now.

I'm betting the end result will look very nice.  After all, it's Del Frisco's.

Nice pic, dangr.  Looks good.  Reminds me of New Orleans.

Looks like part of the sidewalk has been railed off for more outdoor seating. So the sidewalk is a bit narrower.

I was interested to see how much room would be left as well, and it looks like plenty. Good on Del Frisco's for keeping downtown lively.

Had a business meeting there Monday and it does remind a little of French Quarter restaurant.

I took pictures of the building, the balcony, and the sidewalk two weeks ago, but I haven't uploaded them.  It seemed like there was plenty of room to me.
