Does anyone remember or have any pictures of the old Tivoli theater that was on Magnolia St. just west of where the Paris Coffee Shop is now? I grew up on the southside and attended many movies there. I also wanted to introduce myself as I am new to this board and forum. I am a native of Ft. Worth, lived here all my life and have found the discusssions on here fascinating. I am not an architecture professional but have always loved urban and building design.

Welcome to the forum! I remember the Tivoli on Magnolia, but that is just about all that I can remember. There are several others here that probably have better recollections of the movie house.

There is a picture of the Tivoli lobby on the west wall of the Paris Coffee Shop.

I attended the Tivoli in the early 40s. It was one of the few air conditioned buildings in Fort Worth at the time. One picture I remember seeing there was "Jesse James" with Henry Fonda. I have a VCR of the movie now.

Have no pictures, but I recall spending many Saturdays there at the 'kid show'.....double feature....2 or three serials......several cartoons, all for twelve cents......and the manager would hand out fudgecicles as we departed. Held a girls hand for the first time right there on the front row.

The Tivoli and Rockyfellers were not torn down in 1950s. I used to eat at that Rockyfellars from early to mid 1960s. According to Historicaerials.com. They were still there in 1970.

The Tivoli was a bit before my time, but my older brother recalls walking to there many times with his childhood buddies, as he and my family lived at that time in what's now labeled the Near Southside neighborhood. He's told me that it was a pretty decent theater to attend to back in the day, and the photo certainly backs that up, even if it was a "second-run" venue.

Two questions, though: did the Tivoli have a balcony like the first-run movie palaces downtown? The picture seems to indicate that in the background. Also, does anyone remember any details about the Tivoli's marquee (colors, lettering, etc.)? Although I'm more of a drive-in theatre aficionado, the Tivoli's history does fascinate me given the stories about it.
