Another "what if" where I put MAJOR emphasis on "what if". I know a new university can't just pop up or anything, so again, just a WHAT IF.

If we established a public university in the same way as a UT-Dallas, I think this is where it should be. As a true urban campus, I think this location would be perfect, seeing how this entire area is changing. Of course I'm not for sure, but I feel like this: The day will come when the rest of the West 7th area replaces the old warehouses and this is just my suggestion of what to replace it with. So...

The map speaks for itself, obviously. Wondering if an expansion north of the river would be a good idea?

Anyway, this is just a start. I'll have more later... it's 11:30 and I got work in the morning so you folks have a good night.

I. for one, am looking forward to the "university" style buildings you depict here (did you check the zoning?).  Not intending to argue the point of location, since this is hypothetical.  But I would guess location is an important integral part of your architectural stratagem.  So, you're wanting another large campus in the proximate vicinity of TCU and North Texas Health Sciences Center.  Go for it!

for a certain ambitious perspective:

Harvard to MIT: 1.6 Miles

Harvard to BU:  1.9 Miles

TCU to FW Public University (Proposed): 3.9 Miles

UNTHSC to FW Public University (Proposed): 1.5 Miles

Population of Boston: 626,000

Population of Fort Worth: 741,000

Of course. Would NEVER touch it.

Thanks for the numbers (you forgot Texas Wesleyan) . I did realize that it wasn't that far from TCU, but (1.) I wanted to create an urban university and felt this would be the best spot for it. (2.) Considering how spread out this city is, it would still feel like forever getting from one campus to the other, and they would both be within 820. I can't find the zoning map for this area, but the buildings would be no higher than 5 floors.

I'm not gonna go full on custom models like I usually do for my concepts, just have placemakers to represent what I'm talking about.

Don't forget about the Baptist Seminary, either.

I am in Austin, and it is a long time since I have visited that area of Ft. Worth,  but isn't the proposed site in the southeast corner of the junction of Jacksboro Hwy and University Drive?

If my thinking is correct,  it sure seems like the land in that junction slopes down toward the river.  Is that area really protected from the possibility of high water if there were ever another flood like the one from the 30s/40s or whenever it was?  Or maybe I am thinking way wrong, since your picture shows the river north of the proposed "what if" campus.

I was just in Boston and on several of the tours they talked about student moving day.  It was stated that about 300,000 students move into the city every year.

Every year someone in a U-haul gets stuck under this one bridge, and all of the stuff left behind makes for good picking which can then be sold to the new students the next year.

I've just driven threw the area a couple times, but never truly walked through it. It's not as attractive walking through a heavy industrial area, but I should do it sometime.

I do believe this area is will get part of the TRV's flood control, and there is a levee along the river.

Wouldn't be like UTD as it's in Richardson. I would like to see a University of Fort Worth  at the site of the Butler housing project. My mom and other IM Terrell alumni would never let you tear it down so it would have to be incorporated but I think it would work with athletic fields on the site of the Bertha Collins Rec Center.

In addition to TCU, TWU, the other TWU, UNTHSC,  and UT-Arlingtion we also have TCC, and it's quite large too.  All of the existing schools will continue to try to grow since they can't help themselves...

The only realistic way this happens (and I do think it's actually fairly realistic) is for the TCC downtown campus to "graduate" into Tarrant College and eventually University of Fort Worth.  Given the locataion of the current campus you could have it span the river, or have it occupy the four quadrants of the Belknap & Henderson Intersection.  The current facility has more of a campus feel than an urban feel.  I think Henderson could get a more urban feel if developed correctly, although that situation would never have an NYU feel to it.

You're talking about the Radio Shack campus, right?

Yeah.  That's my thought.  You could build out towards the river, but eventually you need to spill over Henderson.

From TCC's website:

Enrollment growth has been steady throughout recent years. The South Campus, at 4,772, had the largest opening-day enrollment of any community college in the nation up to that time. Overall credit student enrollment passed the 20,000 mark in 1980 and exceeded 50,000 in the fall of 2011. As of 2012, TCC is the sixth-largest college or university in Texas.

Would it be feasible for TCC to expand into a 4-year school?  Maybe keep TCC as a two-year feeder that fell under the administration of a UT-FW?  The two-year student base certainly exists.
