A while ago I wrote in about driving in Cresson. I've stayed in the game and have changed what I drive, but the big thing is I actually recorded some track time. What does it look like from within my car on a track? Here you go!

At least you passed the MR2. That clip at 1:55 really tripped me out. Looks fun.

Looks like a real nice track. Do you do the BMW CCA DE events at MSR? I've been wanting to try those if I get my car safe enough for the track.

I haven't actually run with BMW CCA yet, but do want to in the future. Meanwhile I will be with the Porsches at Eagles Canyon this weekend.

Reporting in from Eagles Canyon. What an awesome track! There will be a lot of high-end racing up there. Here is a video my neighbor shot of a lap in his Lotus Exige:

He's faster than me for sure.

But if you want to see the ultimate in driving (with great soundtrack work, "turn it up!"):

Nice video of EC.

I'm going to try some drivers' schools next year. Maybe the Apex one at MSR, and BMW. I just bought an '02 Subaru WRX as a daily driver for this purpose.

For your first time at the track I recommend The Drivers Edge http://www.thedriversedge.net because they do a very good job of introducing both the technical and the safety aspects of driving on the track. Their event schedule for this year is at http://www.thedriver...net/2008TDE.pdf

My one experience with Porsche Club was very positive and they seem to have a nicely structured approach. NASA-TX comes at things a bit more loosely, I think, but you'll certainly learn to go fast with them and there's also racing to watch when you aren't driving. I've run with them four or five times and it's always been great.

Also there is a lot of overlap among instructors in the area, meaning you'll see some of the same folks with Apex, BMW, NASA-TX, etc. I've just been impressed with the added depth of classroom work from TDE. But at the end of the day I think all the various organizations are doing a good job of increasing the high-performance driving opportunities around here.

My next event will be at Cresson Feb 2-3 with The Drivers Edge. I hope to see y'all out there some time.

Can you just go as a spectator and snap some shots?

Where do you go to get the tech. inspection for your car?

I got a 2002 Subaru WRX recently so that I could try some schools.

Sorry not to get back timely on the questions...

to Papaw: yes, in general spectators are allowed and can snap away. The challenge at most tracks is to get to a location for good pictures since in the interest of safety your access may be limited.

to Mike: any certified shop can do your inspection. Just take the sheet with you and ask them to hit the spots. In my case I'm often having the brake fluid replaced and ask for the inspection at the same time. I think if you find some service to do at the same time you can often get the inspection for pretty close to free. And the WRX appears to rock on the track from what I've seen of them.

Here's my own video from Eagles Canyon. I've since been back and knocked about 6 seconds off my lap time.

That M3:Legend and TOP GEAR: ENZO vid is pure auto porn!

"M" button is waaay AWESOME!

Have you ever seen one of these on the course.

Eagles Canyon looks pretty nice.

I just did a 1 day school with Apex at MSR this past weekend. it was in conjunction with Lamborghini of Dallas' Concourso. It was a blast. I'll do more. I'm thinking about the BMWCCA one later this month.

No, Fly, haven't seen a Marcos. Have shared the track with some other nice machines of the Porsche, Ferrari, and Lambo varieties, though. I've probably driven with somebody NAMED Marcos at some point...

Glad you had fun, Mike. Careful or you could become another "track addict" like me. So far there is no twelve step program.

I'm signed up for The Drivers Edge first weekend in May at MSR.

The reason why I ask is for starters, it's a beauty. Secondly, I am looking to get in the market for one TSO GT, with stateside steering. I hear that the company went under, AGAIN. So I can't seem to find a USA or NA dealer. Would love to test drive one at the very least. Can't wait for the new Honda NSX to roll out on the market, ALWAYS eyeing for one of them.

I think you can count on a good time; you will never look at driving the same again. What will you be driving out there?

335i, 6spd. I talked to Greg Snyder (i think, the guy organizing it) last night @ the club meeting and he told me what to expect, and yea, I will have a good time.
