This week's GuideLive has a rave review of Lanny's on W. 7th. I have also heard great things. Anyone been there yet? I hope to go next time I'm in town.

They also mention that Tim Love is opening a new place on Camp Bowie called Duce. Anyone know anything about this? Where on CB might this be?

Lanny's is very good, but expect to throw down some cash. Similar in price to Del Frisco's as opposed to Reata or something like that.

I think Duce is going to be down by Ridglea Theater in whatever that redeveloped shopping center is called. It's supposed to be more of a night spot, with food. I'm sure it will be good...I could eat at Lonesome Dove every day I think.

Lannny's Alta Cocina Mexicana - excellent. It is relatively expensive, but not outrageous. You certainly get what you pay for. Don't waste your time ordering beef there - get something that they specialize in (i.e. fish) - exceptional.

The atmosphere is a pleasantly clean and contemporary, yet still cozy and inviting. It is in a small former house on West 7th near the museums that used to house the Green Lantern, the FWWeekly offices, and a cafe years ago. The typical dinner crowd is composed of rather stylish looking 20 and 30-somethings as well as conservatively clad groups of 50 to 60 year olds. It is nice to see that the chef/owner appears to have found the sweet spot that appeals to both young and old.

The menu is interesting and a refreshing departure from now-routine gourmet versions of Texas staples. Lanny's is a great addition to Fort Worth's growing cullinary scene. This restaurant sets a new high water mark for restaurants in this city.

I also read the review in Guidelive. I'm going to make a special trip over to FW from Dallas to check it out. It sounds fantastic.

Bud Kennedy writes about the Meso Maya that will soon open on Hulen (former Rockfish building). What caught my eye is the carefully worded reference to the Meso Maya in the Kress building:.....

 

 

Meso Maya should start work soon and be open in Feb next year. 

 

Having recently visited the Mayan Region of Mexico and having only viewed online the menu of Meso Maya, I find the menu offers very little authentic Mayan cuisine.

 

The Mayan cuisine is regional, just like America has regional cuisine, and so I found it to taste quite differently from what we in Texas are typically familiar with.

The first complaint about it being a Dallas based operation will hit in 5...4...3..

 

..2..1 ... No complaint.   Businesses come and they go; and hopefully they continue to come. It is a testament to Downtown that it is clearly on lots of people's radar.

 

Recently, when it comes to food and entertainment, Fort Worth has been giving Dallas as much as it has been getting from it.

The Bluebonnet location is going in the space previously occupied by Pegaso.  I'm off on Monday, so I might give the Hurst location a try for lunch.
