Clay Pigeon's Marcus Paslay is opening a new restaurant in SW FW in mid-January: Piatello Italian Kitchen. I believe its coffee bar opened this week.

I stopped by there yesterday after seeing that the coffee bar was open.  They posted this enticing picture:

Nice, eh?  So I rode my bike over.  I won't go into the whole story, but I ordered a cappuccino and this is what I got (this is after I took a sip or two; the cup was full):

I expressed my disappointment that they didn't give me a china cup, they just said, "paper cup is the default."  I whined about it on Facebook and their general manager sent me a PM apologizing for the service.  We chatted a bit where I offered some suggestions which the manager said he'd look into.  He was very polite.

The coffee, incidentally, tasted fine.

Not sure I've ever been to an establishment where I had to ask which container was the default.

You know, many times over the years I've considered starting a web site where you can show your food next to a picture of how it looks in the ad or on the menu. On the one hand, it might help to make them pay attention to quality and work harder on the presentation. On the other hand, I probably don't want food that's been... uh, 'prepared' the way they do to get it to look right for the camera.

It's not hard to make cappuccino look good.

I understand putting "to-go" orders in paper.  So ask if it's to go.  If it's not, put it in a normal cup/plate/whatever.

I rode to the coffee bar, so I'm sure they looked at me as a homeless person or something, seeing how I was "glowing" so to speak when I came in, especially considering this will be a fine dining restaurant when fully open.  But nothing says "You can leave now" like packaging an order to go without asking if it is, in fact, to go.  If not that, it says, "I'm too lazy to wash china cups, so our default is to serve it in paper cups."

But I don't want to bad mouth them.  It was their first day open.  The coffee was fine.  The management promised to address the issue.  They're probably fine people.
