Here is a thought:  Celebrate Independence Day on the first Friday in July.

Make sense?

Make sense?

Afraid not.  You see, there are certain historical dates that are sacrosanct, meaning they are to be observed on that very day.  The most important date for our country is the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.  I wouldn't change that date for a holiday.

I'm afraid that you have your historical dates wrong.

Any way, by Wednesday, we will all feel some strangeness "winding down and gearing up" as a normal week is split.

What are everyones favorite places to go and watch fireworks on the 4th? Ideally something not as CROWDED as you'd find at the Panther Island festivities...

The last couple of years we've tried to watch from the lawn outside of the Amon Carter which has been nice, but with the construction there I don't know if that'll be open this year or not.

I'm always interested in new ideas.

I've always thought JP Elder might be a fun place, but never been myself. It might be packed.

My tradition for the past two years: Watch from the Trinity River at East 4th Street (next to Bathtub Gin's, across from Martin House).

Although it's not very close to the Panther Island display, there will be plenty of fireworks going off directly above you. :)  :D

That said, I'm considering going to the actual Panther Island display this year, and spending a little more to take Lyft home (I plan to drink). Not sure yet.

To watch the Panther Island display?

I've never been, but I don't think that would be a good place to watch Panther Island fireworks from. You'd be far away, and trees would obstruct your view.

When I was a kid, we used to climb atop our house in southwest Fort Worth and watch the Benbrook Lake fireworks display.  Back in that day, just about every street in our neighborhood was a mini-fireworks display--roman candles, texas twisters, black cat firecrackers, sparklers, fountains, you name it!  Alas, that is a bygone era, fun but dangerous.

We're going to the Ranger game and staying for their fireworks.  Just lucked out and picked it in the game package that I share with a friend.

It's unfortunate so many municipal governments dictate that residents can't celebrate Independence Day with fireworks.

Actually, it's frustrating. So much for freedom...

Well, yeah...but.  I really meant it by closing with "fun but dangerous."  The cities had legitimate public safety concerns about all that roman candling and fire-cracking in the neighborhoods.  I like freedom...to a point, that is.

As someone who has had roof damage from amateur aerial fireworks, I have no problem with them being banned in crowded residential areas.  Enforcement is terrible, but if it gives someone a little pause to know they could get in trouble, I'm okay with my city protecting my freedom to have my house not burn down.

It's not only a potential fire hazard, but I hate this time of year noise-wise.  I got home around midnight after partying at a friend's house off Eagle Mountain Lake and watching really colorful private displays on the lake.  Didn't really get to bed until near 1:00 a.m. because neither the building design of my abode nor my loud fan can drown out the occasional fire cracker burst in the neighborhood (I tried to sleep with hands covering my ears, which is very uncomfortable, believe me!).

The fire cracker poppers did the same the previous late evening and early morning hours.  I hope this is the end of it, but I'm afraid they'll be at it again tonight and maybe evening Saturday night.  If so, I may shout out angrily for anyone to hear:  "Independence Day is over, you idiots, now quiet down!"

Both the Panther Island and Botanic gardens shows were great. The Panther Island event must be one of the most heavily attended events in the city, the place is packed.

Coyote Drive In and the Botanic Garden still have a few more shows if you want to catch some.

I seeing that Fort Worth is having a Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration, more accurately, its TRWD/Panther Island.

July 2, 2020, Governor Abbott signs order masks are required in any county with more than 20 confirmed cases of Corvid-19. and in Houston, the local newspaper is telling everyone to just stay at home during Independence Day Weekend.

1. Whose idea is this to have thousands of Tarrant County residents massing at or near Panther Island?

2. Will you be attending this live event?

They're encouraging people to watch from their homes. https://amp.star-tel...e243878367.html Panther Island Pavilion will be closed and a large portion north of downtown will be barricaded to traffic.

I'm trying to figure out where I should watch the fireworks from.

The area I typically watch from (Trinity River & East 4th Street) draws large crowds, and could draw more than usual this year with Panther Island shut down. It's also a bit far from the "official" show.

Watching from home isn't an option. My house is too far away, and there are too many trees in my neighborhood.

If you lived in my southwest Fort Worth neighborhood you wouldn't have to go far to see a fireworks show.  I saw one from my house that was in another yard across the street.  And there was another one to the west of my street.  And another further down the street somewhere.  And all this illegal fire cracking lasted well past 2:00 a.m.  Happy Fourth for anyone who doesn't care to get any sleep.

Ordinance banning illegal fireworks in the city?  What ordinance?  Police enforcement?  What police enforcement?

I stayed up until 1 AM.  I live on a small hilltop south of Downtown, and I could see the Panther Island Fireworks from across the street by looking straight north (down the street on axis).  There are too many trees on my side of the street, so that's why I went across the street.  The ground is also higher there.  Everyone around me was setting off fireworks, so I had displays in all directions.  Unfortunately, all of these were illegal.  I quit calling the police several years ago, because it didn't do any good.  I have two dogs, and one of them is extremely scared of loud noises.  The other one isn't bothered, but she was eager to come in early because of the fireworks.  Normally, I let them out right before I go to bed to use the bathroom, but the fireworks were so bad for the week before, I had to let them in around sunset, or earlier.  I enjoyed all of the displays, but I'm glad the holiday is over.

I went up to the 6the floor and had a 360 degree view. There were fireworks going off all over. Pretty cool to have a few cold beverages and take in the sight.

On Friday July 3, I did a food delivery shift, and saw fireworks all over town after sunset. It was a day early, but I suppose some people wanted to practice.

On July 4, I went to my usual place to watch fireworks east of downtown (a bit far from official show, but where many residents gather to put on an unofficial show). But, few people showed up this year compared to usual.

So, I went to the west side of downtown instead, and walked 2/3 of a mile along the Trinity River from the West 7th Street bridge to almost Henderson Street to get as close as possible to the official show. Many people were gathered near the West 7th Street bridge (a mile from the show), but hardly anyone walked the 2/3 of a mile to get as close to the show as possible (1/3 a mile from the show). It was great, and may be my new yearly tradition.

Though I enjoyed the official show, I'm glad police in Fort Worth don't bother people who choose to celebrate Independence Day with their own fireworks.
