I was told by my high school teacher (Mr.Curry) that JFK drove down River Oaks Blvd the morning before he was assassinated. I just wanted to know if there is any truth to this and if so. does any one have any photos or stories to contribute.
Love the site BTW.

I was under the impression that he traveled from Meacham Field to downtown, and just assumed that was most likely down Main. Never heard about his entourage taking the scenic route. That is to say, I don't know...

Yes the JFK motorcade drove on River Oaks Blvd to Carswell AFB where Air Force One was waiting to take the President to Dallas.
The River Oaks library has a JFK exhibit with photos.

I was in the 1st grade at Castleberry Elementary and we walked over to see the motorcade pass by. Irma Marsh junior high and CHS students also walked to RO Blvd to see JFK.
My sister told me that Kennedy chatted with the older students as he passed by. He rode in a white Lincoln convertible and not the Presidential limo.
Edit: The photo at the bottom of the RO library page is at the intersection of RO Blvd, Roberts-Cut-Off and Black Oak Lane.

That is interesting and something that I was not aware of. River Oaks is actually quite interesting to drive though - a great deal of it seems to be largely intact and unchanged since that period.

And all this time I thought JFK flew out of Meacham to Love Field. I work in River Oaks and cross that intersection everyday.

After reading up on the more sordid (and colorful) history of this area, I always thought it was kind of an interesting coincidence considering some of Kennedy's men hung out at the Cellar downtown during his visit (owned by a man who'd also owned a club on Jacksboro highway in its heyday, and carrying with it all the mob ties that location may imply.) My father and my grandparents had moved to West Fort Worth in the mid-60's (my grandfather had moved around as a naval officer and settled here to work as an airplane engineer), and my mother grew up in the Benbrook area of Fort Worth but attended Arlington Heights HS; all say this area was known as being a bit "rough" but I'm not sure if that might have been referring directly to its history as a mob hotspot or if that was even relevant into the mid-later 60's.
