Does anyone know if there's an easy way to get to the top of the building? I've also always wondered what the view was like up there...I mean, it's practically unobstructed.

You know what, for some reason or another, I like this building just fine the way it is. I know most of you gawk at the thought of shiny, gold 70's boxes, but there's something that always interested me about this building in particular, just sitting there amongst 1920's and 30's single family homes, shining in all of it's golden-ness. I'd be ok with someone redoing it too, especially if they decided to make the base a little more pedestrian friendly.

With a different base and crown it would be fine.
Or more tolerable...

Reminds me of something my grandpa used to say:
"If we had some ham, we could have ham and eggs . . . if we had some eggs."

I have been on the inside of this building before and it needs much work as well. Is the pic above new or old. Last time I saw the building several windows did not match the rest. Looked really bad.
Go to the Woodcrest Capital website. With my understanding of what they do, I would never do business with them if their headquarters was in a building that looked like that.

He has refused to rematch the funds he promised the stocks would bring, he got the writeoff at that amount BTW, or resign his seat. TCU is less than happy with him.

In another thread a long time ago we nominated buildings most in need of destruction. How I failed to list this one I'll never know. Maybe I was jsut so used to seeing it I didn't notice it.
Implosion or wrecking ball? Until then I suggest it be renamed as the "Berry Blight" Building.
I do agree with Johnny, though, that the contrast with the surroundings is interesting. But I'd rather it were a good-looking golden shiney object instead of something so ugly.

still, massive exterior vertical blinds might be an improvement for that building if done tastefully.

ok, ok... i woke up a bit on my way downstairs. i imagine it's for the window washers' rig.

I was bored so I decided to make a very basic (crappy) version of a different look. It may not be something that is even possible to do but this is what I envision that it could look like.

As for the crown, you could do the same curtain wall around the top floor penthouse or something like what I think Trumpet is proposing, only I'd like to see a nice semi-transparent glass extend up from the new curtain wall over the top floor. You could illuminate it at night similarly to how Pier 1 is lit, only with much softer light.
As for the facade, I found a nice building in London that had something close to what I wanted, but maybe just a little more blue (although maybe it is blue, but looks different due to the clouds). Imagine just that glass going all the way around the building.

Cool! That's similar to what I was thinking. I have a few questions about the feasibility of my plan though. Architects & engineers: would it be possible to put a new curtain wall on the outside of the building in front of the columns so there is a more seemless facade? I think the building would look a lot better if it was all glass and wasn't broken up by that ugly concrete. Also, I'd like to see the biggest ledge shaved off a bit to be level with the new curtain wall.
I'm not an architect or engineer, but it would seem like your proposal would be possible if you wanted to spend enough. I'm hot and cold on the seamless glass box, but I know I don't like the combination of gold (bronze?) glass and concrete that's there now. Your bluish or Trumpet's greenish - either could be an improvement with or without seams.
I think if the curtain wall followed the window-washer's track - that might look pretty cool.

Man, the crown definitely needs help.
And while we're at it, the awning in front looks too 7-11-ish.

Would it be cheaper to add a curtain wall and new crown than demolishing it entirely and building something else? I'd really like to see this building retained because Berry would look too empty without it, even with the new GrandMarc.
