Without much fanfare, Fort Worth has quietly established a reputation for being the home of some acclaimed distilled spirits and brewed beer makers.  Is there now a Brewery District and yet another reason for greater tourism?

Out of 10 breweries on the Fort Worth Ale Trail, 5 are in the Near Southside.  And three are within walking (or at least short bicycle ride) of each other:  Rahr, Collective and HopFusion.

I bought my first retail 6-pack of HopFusion Feisty Blonde this week.

Not beer, but Firestone & Robertson Distilling Co. is not far from the first three. Current home of the TX blend and Burbon.

Strange... Wild Acre is not listed on the map, but 3 other breweries that are not in FW are. Also of note, the Trinity River Distillery is next to Wild Acre as well. So add another to the list.

Shouldn't we include the 800 Pounds Gorilla - Miller Coors?; after all, it did put the City on the map of America's Beer Towns.

The tour could include the craft breweries in the Near Southside, ok Far Southside; and make a final stop at the "JerryWorld" of beer production. :swg:

The Ale Trail is not really comprehensive, it's possible certain breweries did not opt in to the program.

No, they're just not on the map.  They're listed among the breweries.

Deep Ellum Brewery Co. coming to Fort Worth to battle (on a smaller scale with a tap room) with our own Rahr & Sons?  And near our own "Deep Ellum" imitator West Seventh alias Crockett Row?  Hmph!  Say it ain't so!

Rahr has already had plenty of competition for awhile now. I doubt this has much of an effect on them.

Of the Fort Worth breweries, Rahr would be the least affected.  Most of their product is sold retail.  It would potentially have a bigger effect on Chimera or Collective Brewing Project or HopFusion who sell most or all of their beer in the taproom.  But being in Linwood I don't think it's close enough to really affect them.

Boy was I wrong.  HopFusion recently exceeded 1000 retail outlets for their products.  :o

After seeing what it took to bring HopFusion online, spring of 2019 is a pipe dream.  It take longer than that to start a new brewery.  (Maybe they can do better, but I'll be surprised).  Look for them in 1Q of 2020.

The zoning case for Turning Point Beer in Bedford went to city council for a zoning change in August of last year and they opened up in March of this year, about 3 months later than originally planned and a month later than they were saying at the first of the year.  Not easy I'm sure, but certainly doable.  There's a lot of maneuvering behind-the-scenes that has to happened that could already be in the works for Funky Picnic.

Perhaps there's more experience out there now.  I know a lot of it had to do with getting through the regulatory process.

Collective Brewing Project has closed per their Facebook.

It's a tough competitive market. I really appreciated their sour selection and really loved their Tropic Thunder/Funky Thunder beer.

I hope their team knows that they had a positive influence on our local beer market. Sad to see them pack up shop.

I think their infatuation with sours is what did them in.  Some people really like them, some don't.  If you don't there really wasn't much else there.

Much like I enjoy a restaurant that makes simple dishes with the freshest fine ingredients, I wish breweries would stop trying to be creative and just make great, fresh beer.

It seems to be a curse of chefs and brewmasters and architects that they must "make their mark" instead of just doing basic things very very well.

I like Hopfusion in that they have a very wide variety of beers.  Anchored by their 4 permanent selections, they typically have 15-20 beers on tap.  They even introduced a "table beer" which is lower alcohol, essentially a high quality Budweiser-type beer.  So there's literally something for everyone's taste.

On the heels of Collectives shutting down, HopFusion is growing. They have announced that they are adding 2300 SqFt to their existing space. Plans include to increase taproom space, bar space, and build and outdoor Biergarten. They are one of my favorite breweries and it will be nice to have the beer garden with the increased traffic theyll be having soon enough.

The original brewery in Fort Worth is now MillerCoors.

Wouldn't you think that MC should have a retail store touting its specialty beers in the Brewery District?

Thats a great idea, I believe it would be well received. It wouldnt even need to be a huge footprint, although, they definitely have the capital to create an amazing space. They are still my favorite domestic and I would drop in.

MillerCoors now owns Revolver, and will be opening the "Revolver Bldg 5 Taproom" at Texas Live in February.

Of course, this is no longer craft beer, and I haven't touched a drop of it since the sellout was announced.

Do you really think the beer being produced has changed?  Maybe it's only PR, but I heard that while they were bought out, it's still the same people and processes.  The founder just monetized his success.

Like I said I haven't touched it, but anecdotal evidence is that EVERY craft brewery that sells out changes, and never for the better.
