bunch of west siders/rivercresters hanging around this place. pizza was average, scallops were good, wine list wasn't too bad, but leaned a little too heavy on california. service was lousy... but the crowd really is the one thing that turned me off more than anything else. how many pairs of boat shoes, khaki shorts and polos can you see in one place?
this is the owners' first foray into restaurants.
for good wine and tapas i'd stick to zambrano's or sapristi! on forest park and park hill, in my opinion.

I will echo Angie's thoughts by saying the place is out-freaking-standing. Every dish we had blew me away. Great interior. Great food. Another jewel in the Near Southside's restaurant crown. More thoughts and photos coming later. I encourage everybody to check the place out. They say they're open 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM Monday through Saturday.
All due respect, Kevin, but "out-freaking-standing?" It was fair to middling at best, in my opinion. The interior is unimaginative, the food average and the prices not necessarily reflective of the food you're given. I think Paul Willis could've stretched himself a bit more with this one, but I suppose with Fuzzy's still doing well, why ruin a good thing?
Would I go back? Sure. But I'll have to politely disagree with you in my interpretation of it.

Just for giggles, I drove down to the Cultural District to see how the turnout was. Saw Greg all polished in his suit and sunglasses giving an interview or talking to someone. Oh, I'm not a professional crowd estimator but I'm guessing 30 or 40 people out there. Didn't see anyone else I knew personally...
A few stories about the rally, one from me and the other from the Weekly's Jeff Prince.

J & J's Hideaway has closed. It will be demolished soon to make way for one of Museum Place's mixed-use buildings. That same building (apartments over retail) will also lead to the demolition of the old Post Office (once the new one opens) and the demolition of most of Darcy Street.

This might be better suited elsewhere, but I did a small story on the Hideaway for the Biz Press.

I've always had a good meal at First Chinese Barbecue in Arlington. I think it's an area chain, but the Collins Street location has never disappointed me.
