One of the best cruising spots of the 60's was Carlson's Drive-Inn on University Dr about a quarter mile north of the zoo on the opposite side of the street. It was 'The" place to go for all action a young person would need. Especially to meet girls and to chat with all your friends....Not to mention the best ever Bacon Burger on the planet. This was one of my cars during that time.

This is an exact example of what my new 64 Impala SS looked like in 1964 when I bought it.

Wow...So Sweet so far.I love the color. Are you keeping the V6 and is there going to be any more chrome?? Please use the body side moulding to protect that awesome paint job. I also love all Lowriders because they are into Doo Wop which is my 2nd love after cool cars.

I love it Juan, Great Job....Herb

This was my baby from 1996 until we moved to Texas in 2005. She's a '65 El Camino with a 426hp 350 bored to 357 (.040 over), camel hump fuelie heads, 1.94/1.50 valves, 288°/298° cam, Pete Jackson straight-cut gear drive, 600cfm Edelbrock, etc., etc. In addition to transportation problems, I didn't think it would be practical to drive on these awful Texas roads, given that the header collectors sat 2" off the pavement! We got down to the wire and had to sell it to my wife's cousin for $6k!!

The color is from a Toyota. LOL
Keeping the V6. Not much more chrome to be added.
I have not put much trim on yet but it will be going on. This was the base model so it did not come with chrome rockers. I will be having it pinstriped and silver leafed soon. Then I will start on my IMPALA. :D

OK, so it's not a 60s muscle car, but it IS reminiscent of the great '69 Camaro! We bought this 2013 RS last Tuesday, then had the stripes added and picked it up last Friday. Love it!!

Absolutely outstanding, Ron. (Color and all)

I would ask whether it is the V-6 or the V-8, but both are twice as fast as anything I have ever owned.

Somebody gave me some advice once that I took. Don't ever by a powerful car if you don't want to buy one the rest of your life as they can be addictive. I have never had a powerful or fast car. I would sure take a Camaro with the beast of a V-6 (3.6L direct injection I think) Could be my current Chevy truck is the fasting thing I have ever owned. 5.3L Half as fast as the new Camaro V-6 of course.

I will be looking for this ride on the streets of Panther Town... (As it is a 2013 I can probably smell the new before I see it.) You are going to have fun.

Thanks Brian - she's only a V6, but still puts out about 325 bhp and hits 60 mph in 6 seconds. I'd love to have the sound (and power) of the V8, but you can add another $8k or so for that, and this will be plenty for us to get around town in!

its heart warming to see your posts about the good old days. as a teenager, my dad showed me "American Grafitti". watching that movie i really felt at home with what i was seeing. im not the same age as you guys, im only 33. i can tell you, and you already know, that i missed it. my generation cruises but its not quite the same. i wish i could have been able to cruise on a big street with ol wolfman howling on the radio.

i actually long to experience that. todays world kinda sucks. i dont have a long road to cruise, even though i am new, i find myself going through camp bowie or preston in dallas. i like the expensive houses.

now we go to a park and ride and hang out, i get to see sorry spoiled brats driving around in nissan gt-r's (90k+ sports car) and bragging about cars they used their parents money to build.

i have had 2 "muscle" cars in my younger years. a 83 camaro and a 87 firebird formula. not really muscle, especially with the weak 305. right now i drive a mitsubishi evo, which is a very fun and fast pocket rocket. im actually more into the imports but i can respect an "american" sports/muscle car.

maybe one day we can organize a old school-modern "school" (i guess??) cruise. i think it would be good to exchange stories. you guys are so blessed to have lived in such a great time

Rick, AG was a great movie! Where were you in 62?

On that note every other Sunday at 7pm is cruise-in night at Pizza Inn on Hulen St. A call out to the hot rod community is being made for folks with pre-65 classic cars to show off their chrome. Attendees with pre-65s qualify for the "Hot Rod Special" - a buffet and drink for $5.99. The parking lot we use is in the back with great lighting. Bring your stories.

The manager at Pizza Inn is Jacob and James. Please thank them for supporting the classic car community.

Juan...That 62 of yours looks very solid and I bet in no time at all you will have a beauty. I remember back in 1963 at Carswell AFB I bought my 1st car, a 56 bel air with a stock 265 V8 and this kid just got a new red 62 Impala SS 409 and he got married and didn't like the engine for married like and wanted to do a swap and putting that 409 with 2 AFB carbs into my 56 was going to be awesome. Just before were to begin he got shipped out to California and it was never done. About a year later I bought my 1st brand new car...64 Impala SS 327/300HP with 4 on the floor. I was in heaven and been a Chevy guy all my life. Good luck on getting your 62 back to how you want it.
Talk to you later my friend.....HerbPosted Image

Getting there my friend...I'm so fricking jealous. How many cars do you have in the works?? In 1963, I had a chance to trade even for a 62 solid red Impala S/S 409 for my 56 Bel Air because we both were in the Air Force and he was getting married and couldn't afford it anymore, but he changed his mind when he got shipped to Germany and sent the car to his home in Alabama. I was so upset.http://images.gtcarl...es/32423319.jpg

Cruised Bowie in the 80's and 40 years later, we're still doing it!  Camp Bowie Cruisers and Hot Rodders on FB or check out the you tube video of one of our cruises.
