You may be right. All I rememebr is that it was not spelled traditionally. Most of my visits were in a state that I really did not care how it was spelled. I just cannot remember when it closed. They were open through 1985 I know.

I loved that old hamburger stand. It had an antique cash register, an old juke box in the corner and counter seating only. The pay phone in the other corner had the individual coin slots and had a sign to keep phone calls to 2 minutes. They used the same phone number as their business line. They would cook the food right in front of you since the grill was right next to the counter. You could have a conversation with the ladies as they cooked your food. Does anyone know where I can get some Rocky Sauce??

The diner was moved to Pelican Bay.

Yeah, that sauce was the best. Have you ever had a dish called Steak Diane? The Rockyfeller hamburger sauce always tasted like what I remember Steak Diane tasting like. Good stuff!

Beats me, but I looked up a recipe for Steak Diane. In part it calls for flaming a garlic sauteed filet mignon in brandy, preferably a good brandy. I guess maybe Rockyfeller's sauce was NOT the stuff found on Steak Diane. Still, I remember it as being quite tasty.

It is a fairly old style recipe which you would be hard pressed to find in most restaurants today. A good bet would be at clubs though, but probably ordered "off menu." Vito over at La Piazza could probably accomodate that request as well.

Rocky Sauce is still served around here -- I think the guy down at Grumps Hamburgers in Granbury has the recipe.

As I recall, it was even in the paper once. Something about mustard, mayo and a touch of horseradish?

Here is that recipe for Rockyfeller Sauce, just as it came from the

Star-Telegram:

1 cup ketchup

1/2 cup salad dressing

2 tbs. prepared yellow mustard

3 tbs. horseradish

1 tbs. Worcestershire Sauce

1/4 tsp. garlic powder

1/4 tsp. Tabasco Sauce

2 tsp. sugar

1/2 tsp. salt



However, there is something missing from this recipe. I'm almost certain

that there was something green in the original Rockyfeller Sauce. The

next time I make it, I'm going to try adding some sweet relish. If that's

not it, then maybe the missing ingredient is some dill relish or maybe

even some chow-chow. At any rate, though, this recipe gets you pretty

close to the taste of that great unique sauce they had and will give you

something to work with.

My brother just mentioned that place today. He remembered it as Rockerfeller's... Even though I currently live around the corner from it, I don't remember it at all.

Isn't there a Rockyfeller's still in Fort Worth, at a different location, or am I just nuts? That recipe sounds like the old Brockle's cracker sauce from the Dallas Brockle's chain. It was usually served with a big wooden spoon and euphrates crackers. Wouldn't the place we're talking about be a former chain?
