The plan that I am familiar with does not involve the tunnel remnant. It would basically run from the ballpark parking lot, up Paddock viaduct and then a loop around the courthouse(s). It solves the problem of the viaduct not being handicap accessible and makes the jury parking connection.

This is not a positive report. It is slamming TRV and TRWD for more wasteful spending. Seems like Channel 5 is doing a hit piece per day on the Panther Island project. And why the heck did they go to see the streetcar in Little Rock? The McKinney Avenue Transit Authority's M-Line is much heavier utilized and just a day trip away. No expensive hotel stays and restaurant bills.

Once again, TRV leadership threatening the integrity and reputation of Fort Worth's most visionary project.

....Also, the tunnel is very short. The poles on the original cars were only 3 feet long. I'm not sure what the wire height was, but definitely too low to have the same height wire running through Panther Island. You'd have to have some fancy current collector that could work at 10' in the tunnerl and the preferred 18' wire height where cars and trucks would comingle.

The tunnel itself is the primary asset. The fact that it has been mothballed allowing for its potential to be untapped for so long is the waste.  The day that it become functionally reintegrated into the Downtown sector, it will be viewed as another successful redevelopment project.

Would a reopened tunnel have the 1963 era cars or modern cars (2018)?  It would seem to be a poor decision to use anything other than modern cars designed with flexibly adaptive current collectors or so it seems from this photo -

Right on man.

I guess the implication of the original statement was that the handout in Fort Worth's case was not to the developers that Run This Town, but rather to some upstarts who they would just as soon not have to compete against.

"20,000 riders [OKC] in first weekend. Fort Worth's entire bus system moved 17,500 per day in Q2 this year"...Austin55

I believe that Fort Worth would have similar success with a street car line that connected Downtown with the Fort Worth Stockyards as has the OKC Street Car experienced during its recent opening.

The question being raised suggests that there is an aversion to compete between Downtown Interests and the FWSY is a valid perspective.  Would there be tension between the entertainment district in Downtown and the entertainment district in FWSY that would have to be overcome to allow for the opening of a Northern Streetcar Line?

The Bass family is *very* protective of Sundance Square.  They killed the streetcar last time; they see it as a way for tourists to escape downtown.

Too bad they couldn't look at it as a way to get into downtown.

That second video brings back a lot of memories.  From the fall of 1999 through the summer of 2000, I used to go with co-workers to lunch at Tandy Center (or Outlet Square) about once a week.  We would park in the lot and ride the subway into the mall.

Back in the day, I would always drive down to the parking lot and then take the subway into the Tandy Center/Outlet Square.  From there, I could go to the library, or walk around downtown.

I'm still trying to figure out where exactly the tunnel was...

Hmm...

I'd like to see that with a full build of the town lake and West Island.

Could open it back up and connect to the circulator plan

More videos:

(Some nice b-roll footage of inside Tandy and the skating rink.  I like this guy's commentary too, he's not in a hurry, just observing the subway and talking about it.)

I wish that the subway would have been retained and expanded through the rest of downtown as a minimum.  The videos posted above are great. They bring back a lot of memories.

Has anyone had a chance to see the old Leonard-Tandy trolley sitting out near where the southern end of the bypass channel will run?  They have torn down all the buildings at that spot and all that is left is the Trolley.  The vision of the channel is really evident now that those buildings are no longer in the way.

I stopped by on my way into work this morning,

It looks like the car has been relocated to the TEXRail EMF.
