The second time this summer we had a Trinity River tubing event. I missed the first one. Not this one. Took off work a bit early and walked over to Trinity Park. By the time I got there I wanted to sell my camera to the nearest person and jump in the river. Really, I could not decide if today was a tubing day or a tubing photo day. Was pretty hot and humid. By the time I got there with my camera gear I was too hot. I survived. Next time I tube. Really looked like a lot of fun. Here are a handful of shots as well as a link to a slide show of the event.

Brian, those photos are really great. It looks like you have really mastered your photographic techniques. You may actually become a reporter!

Great pics. My first thought upon hearing about this was, "yuck, who would want to get in that water?". But I suppose it can't be any worse than the Comal or Guadalupe. I haven't floated either of those rivers in more than 15 years and I probably wouldn't do it after becoming a "grown-up".

You've used the "golden light" of late afternoon to its maximum advantage. Very attractive photos. :)

Excellent shots as always. I could see my blurry self in the background of some of them. I shot a little video out on the water yesterday with my waterproof HD camera. While there weren't the 300 people expected, it was still a nice little group for a Thursday at 5:30.

The water was much warmer that I expected (I'm used to that cold Comal/Guadalupe water). If a plan can get worked out in the future to get some water flow going, toobing the Trinity could be really fun.

Thank guys, for the nice comments. BBurton hit the nail on the head... Late in the evening the colors are really rich and have a golden glow to them.

I did not go in the water. I will next time based on the comments of those there and also being a foot from the water for 2 hours. The water was pretty clear and did not smell. They did test the water for swimming and it was great, at least for swimming. I am tubing next time. I for sure would rather swim in the Trinity there than in any public swimming pool.

Here is a little video I took of the Skiing action on the Trinity last night. Took this with my 5D Mk II. (70-200 2.8L IS)

Click 1080p, full screen and then pause until fully loaded. Just 59 second video but 359mb.

Brian, good as always. For some reason I thought the Trinity ran pretty fast at that spot. Maybe the rock spillway slows it down at spots.
Your right it was warm today. I can't beleive I was out in a suit having my photo taken with my wife in Grapevine Botanical Gardens in Grapevine.

She had purchased some Groupon from a Dallas Photographer earlier in the year and we had to use it before the end of September. Will try to use my camera this weekend and may go to Grapefest. I can't shoot photos like you guys.........have a great weekend.

How was the water? I mean from the surface and from up above, it just looks so filthy.

Honestly, it was no different than swimming in a lake. Sure, it's nothing like the clear waters of the Guadalupe, Comal, or Frio, but it's not like the Hudson River either.

Ha, I was thinking the same thing after I posted that. I spent Labor Day weekend on Lake Texoma - the water wasn't exactly pure there either.

I saw some folks sculling last weekend, literally did a double take, would have stopped and taken some shots but was behind schedule, as usual.

Hmmph! Wimps - the whole lot of them. If they had real moxie, they would go in the river downstream near Industrial Blvd in Dallas where the water has been enhanced and fortified. :o

They had a setup similar to this and they were just going under 4th st bridge, downstream from the Clear Fork.

Good catch Jeff.

I am thinking of getting in the water this evening. 5:30 this evening down at the river. Free event. Happy hour from a drink establishment down there.

Sunday evening (24 hours after the huge rain) the Trinity was still cook'n.

A tiny HI DEF video clip I took of it. (Click Hi Def, let it load on pause)

Kind of excited about summer again. With new fun games on The Trinity. I am wanting a blow up canoe that I can squeeze under my bed when I am finished with it.

I like this shot. A group of good citizens picking up trash mixed with some skiing action.

I think the tubing and other events the TRV put on are such a great idea for downtown. I pay a lot more attention to how the water looks from various bridges, I now make it a point to take different routes home from work just so I can check how the different sections look, and smell.

4 or 5 years ago things did not look very good, smelled even worse during certain times of the year, but for the last two years I've noticed drastic improvements and am trying to figure out if there's a way to track water color and clarity at different river segments downtown.

Rocking The Trinity Today: http://www.nbcdfw.co...-123586829.html

The secret is out, it's called a SUP, or paddle surfing, paddle boarding. Here's a How 2 Paddle Surf. ...they're pretty fun for wake surfing as well.

Please note the guy on the SUP, it's called a Stand Up Paddleboard and you're going to be seeing a lot more of them on the river, I loved the look on the tubers as the guy goes cruising by, they're about twice as fast as a Kayak and they're a serious core workout.

Already pretty big in Austin: SupATX: http://www.supatx.com/pioneers/

I have a shop on the river that's in the process of making them, trying to come up with a Trinity specific design and eco friendly epoxy. Last winter when I'd mention what I was doing, people would always do a double take, "what did you say, it sounded like you said you were making surf boards?" followed by a chuckle.

Went down to the Trinity River tonight for the tubing/concert event. Was really great.
Plenty of vendors with good food and festive party beverages. A good band playing. A lot of people. Maybe half in the water, half eating a burger while listening to the band. A few shots and a slide show if you would like to see them all.
