Sun Country has run sports charters through here in the past.  If it wasn't the team, it's pretty likely that someone chartered them for a trip to the game.

Ha!  Do you think TCU would fly Sun Country?

Haha! After all the campus construction you gotta save where you can.

TCU flew American Airlines charters to both games out of DFW.

American Airlines has been the carrier for TCU away games for decades.

I thought this was notable given the talks about Breeze right before the Pandemic. Spotted a Breeze flight fly into Meacham on March 4th.

I saw one from CVG going in on Thursday around 6:00. I would assume heading to the paint shop there.

Today is the Fort Worth Aviation Museum’s annual Hops and Props event. I believe it’s their biggest fundraising day. I went for the first time last year. I was blown away how many pilots and crew members they had next to the aircrafts, talking you through their experience. Also, they had an impressive number of breweries. Folks like Martin House were practically giving away full cans.

I've heard nothing but good things about this event.  It always seems to fall on a weekend where I can't go.  I did see the resident C-47 flying around downtown an hour or so ago.

It was a great event today. Not as hot as last year. There were fewer volunteers at each plane, but regardless I get the sense the organizers are never expecting the large crowd. I hope they raised a good amount of money today.

Despite the growth, a reminder there can be ire and dismissal in the North Dallas suburbs towards development. Example, the 380 expansion, Plano’s council backtracking on mixed use, Frisco residents’ concern for the Universal park, and no DART expansion further north in Collin county. Some projects breeze through (the court of public opinion), like PGA/Omni Frisco, The Star, and Legacy West. I’m guessing because they are more prestige projects.

It seems the population has spoken. Given the low turnout in off year elections, I do wonder if those who voted represent the view of all eligible voters. I don’t have any feelings for or against the Bond, though I do think a 3rd airport will be needed in the metroplex to account for our growth and geographic sprawl.

As a side note, I recall a recent article about the number of routes to regional airports being reduced severely by national carriers. I get this isn’t a regional airport or sub-market in a fly-over state, it’s in the metroplex after all! Even though, I’m curious in the evolving aviation space if this airport as envisioned makes sense. Given the demographic of the area, the semi-private JSX and seasonal flights to vacation destinations could be a better jumping off point.

Timing was a big problem.  May Saturday election in an off year, home owners are still in sticker shock over recently receiving their tax appraisals, the legislature doesn't appear to be serious about passing any substantial property tax relief.  It could still happen, but they'll have to find a different way to fund it.

On November 22nd a chartered United 787 Dreamliner flew into Meacham from Newark. I wasn't aware a Dreamliner could land at Meacham. My assumption was the runway would be too short, but upon some quick research the 787 needs less takeoff/landing distance than the 737. Despite the 737 being much smaller.

Not sure who the flight was for. The Cowboys played the Washington Commanders on Thanksgiving, not the Giants.

What is interesting was right around that same time I witnessed about 4 or 5 all black charter buses with police escort driving north from CTP toward I-30 east. It was a few hours prior to the Cowboys game. I feel like Ive seen this police escort before but wouldnt the opposing team need to arrive at the stadium more than two to three hours in advance and why would they be coming up CTP, from where?

A lot of the United flights to Meacham are for paint. One of the bigger hangers near the Northside, IAC, is a big paint shop that United frequently uses. A few years back they put coating on one the 747s used Air Force one (VC-25).

Yes, it was more likely headed to the paint shop than a charter.  An Air Force E-4 (747-200) was also in the paint shop a few years ago.

Ah for paint. That makes a lot of sense. Would have loved to see the 747.

I was browsing around the FW Report and came across this and I didn't recall it ever being mentioned on here.  It's a few month old but it is definitely an interesting possibility of Southwest Airlines possibly expanding to Meacham.
