Just wanted your thoughts on what will become of the Masonic home and school now that they voted to close it? I know its probably a prime peice of realestate and im sure investors would like to get their hands on it to help the south side of Fort Worth. I know its very old and historic because of what it is and was. I would like to see it preserved but what would it or could it become?
I think its unfortunate that those children are being displaced and sent back into what they went there to escape from. Any thoughts??

I grew up near the school and it was always sort of mysterious to me. I hate to see the school close and I pray that the kids that have to go to foster care don't end up living with a child abuser or molestor.
Since I heard the school was closing, I have thought that the campus could become a very fine liberal arts college. In fact, if I had the dough, I would buyout the surrounding houses to the north and east along MLK and build my dream "University of Fort Worth" campus including a 100,000 seat football stadium and a 30,000 seat arena for hoops.

cj, I think a campus is a great idea. My preference is for A&M or Texas Tech to set up a public 4-year plus grad school. Build undergrad first and then flesh it out with the Masters and PhD programs that provide cheap (i.e inexpensive) teachers.

I think a college or something of that type would be great. I am not sure if its listed on the register of historic places....

On a serious note I am sorry to see it close. My father was lifetime Mason and I know he would have been disappointed to see The Masonic Home closed.

The reason they are closing it is a matter of finances. It became too expensive to be able to continue. The decission was made over a year ago that would be the last class. The Masonic order is not as popular as it use to be so they are suffering some financial hardships.
The endowment is still large enough to operate the home and school for years. The masons hate the fact that they had to payout millions because of abuse at the home. They should have taken better care of those children by providing better oversight of the home and school.

If they had paid more attention to what was going on things could have been different now they have turned those young kids back out to where they were before so what good did they do them??? I just thought it was terrible that they closed it.....it really ticked me off
