Now that they've started, they're moving very quickly. I ride with the (former) Lockheed bike club from the "Bryant Irvin Recreation Complex" (as LMRA is now known) ...
And formerly CERA. That place is being renamed as fast as a suburban bank branch building.

I looked across the river as I was riding my bicycle down the Trinity Trail. It looks like the Whole Foods Market now has a wall that is above grade on the west side of the building. That wall constructed out of concrete masonry units. (Cinder Block)

No, they haven't started on the parking garage, except for grading the footprint of it. I was wrong. The building that is going up with the wall is the large retail building south of the new Whole Foods Market. I had to cheat and look at the site plan and aerial construction photos that are found on their website.

I passed by today and noticed that Arborlawn is being poured west of Bryant Irvin. And some of the road leading from the LMRA entrance has also been poured (I think they still need to do the inbound lanes). Additionally they've installed a traffic light at the LMRA entrance (not active yet).

I really like this idea.

REI is a good retailer to get in that area. Not sure they're exactly necessary in the local area considering other options, but I could see where it will draw people into Fort Worth from outlying areas in a way that, say, Academy, never would.

I think it will be a good location for them. It's off of the Trinity Trail, it has easy access to I-20 and I-30, and the area is growing rapidly. I don't shop there much, but the closer they build to me the more likely I will frequent their store.

From what I can tell, that land (which is actually an island in an old oxbow of the river) is slated for either a park or phase 2.

Their plans show for the river to have a trail on their side, as well. They call for a dedicated linear park along their side of the river.

That would work especially well if they could connect from the Bellaire low water crossing, through Waterside, and the CERA (former LMRA) frontage to Bryant Irvin road and under the bridge, where the trail picks up and goes the Overton Creek low water crossing. That would provide trails on both sides of the river from Bellaire to the Colonial (although the crossing at the Colonial isn't bike friendly), with 4 bank-to-bank crossings, plus the crossing on Hulen from the south bank to the north side of the train yard (despite the height of that bridge, that's not a bad crossing for a bicycle).

The site plan shows the trail going to the old entrance drive to LMRA. Beyond that it states "connection to regional trail", but does not show any trails across the CERA property. I would imagine that they would like for CERA to build the trail between the end and under Bryant Irvin Road to connect into the existing trail system.

Sounds like a job for the Clear Fork Bicycle Club!
(Although frankly the problem may be getting under Bryant Irvin Road; I have no idea if there's enough room for any kind of trail under the bridge.)

I know they cannot really help it, but the incorporation (or lack there of) of the cemetery is not very aesthetically pleasing. Today I noticed a large, above grade, cement wall.
I checked out the site plan and it looks like they are wrapping the north and west side with a building but from the street level it looks very distasteful. Will be interesting to follow.

I didn't think Tesla had dealers. Isn't that what the stink in Texas is about them doing business here?

I have heard high end cars like Lamborghini and Rolls Royce are the rumored dealership.
Telsa has showrooms and no dealerships. I heard at one time they were going to build a showroom in the University Park Village.

I thought of Tesla and their showroom in University Park Village when I wrote my post and used it for a typical example, but Lambo and Rolls is more of what I was thinking of.

I ran across a banner ad somewhere online today saying that REI opens next weekend (14th).
I figured it must be close. They had a truck in Trinity Park this weekend for mobile bicycle repairs. With the demise of Trinity, my alliance has been drifting toward Mellow Johnny's. We'll see what REI brings to the table (bike shop wise, and yes I know they're more than bikes).

Waterside was on NBC5 just now. Covering the REI opening. They kept comparing it to lifestyle center/outdoor mall which seems a bit weird, Waterside seems very much like a strip mall with an dallas doughnut behind it.

What was? The Audi dealership?

I stopped into REI today. Nice stuff. I was looking mostly at bicycles; maybe 20-25% of the floor space is devoted to that line. They have a plentiful supply of bikes in stock it appears. They have a ton of staff right now. One employee explained that REI pulled associates in from as far away as New Mexico to help open the store. They wanted trained people there to show the new employees how to do things. As a result they probably have 2X their normal staff right now.
Their prices seemed to range from competitive to OMG.
It was mentioned that next weekend they're having a sale to celebrate REI's anniversary; I think most stuff will be 20% off.

Apparently this REI has a LOT more bike stuff than the one I used to live near in Bloomington, MN. That store had less bike selection than Wal-Mart. Glad to hear they have some good stuff at the Fort Worth store. They had a big van out in Trinity Park today doing free bike repairs along the super busy trail. I guess they are thankful that Mayfest isn't going on...

The recent issue of FW Inc. has a cover story about the developments along the river. Waterside is very interesting. They conducted focus groups with local community leaders, retired LMRA employees and TCU students to come up with the design of the property.
- Some of the requests were; no back of buildings facing the river, they didn't want the development overrun with national chains, and trees should be saved.
- The large public space called "The Grove" is where two large trees are and the project is centered around these trees.
- There will be 3 phases and apparently there is an island in the back that was also purchased.
It should be interesting to see this development grow and how it fares with the other development happening around it. IMO, there needs to be a pedestrian bridge built on the west side of the Bryant Irvin bridge similar to the one near the Lancaster St Bridge.

I visited the REI store today. It's very nice and I enjoyed my visit. I'm sure I will be spending more time in the store in the future. It will be interesting to see how well the other stores and restaurants fare over time.
