No new coach cars - only overhauls for existing ones: https://trinityrailw...ation-Final.pdf

I did ride in one of the recently overhauled coaches to the Stars game last night. It was nice and includes new plugs (USB-C) along the wall on every seats. The new seating material feels a lot cleaner too.

Kinda wish they would just go with Stadler, as well.

To use Stadler built Kiss double decker trains, the TRE corridor would have to be electrified.

CalTrains between SF and SJ have spent over a $Billion to do so on a 50 mile long corridor. The TRE corridor is 34 miles long, so that should be cheaper. But tthe CalTrains corridor was already double track all the way, the TRE corridor is not. So that improvement will cost much more.

A $Billion is 10 times more money than $90 Million. The TRE could replace their diesel locomotives at least 10 times for the same sum to electrify the TRE corridor. Which is the wiser choice of expenditure with limited funds?

Would it really have to be electrified, though? Don't the FLIRTs we have run on diesel?

TRE will receive a grant this month to order 5 Siemens Charger locomotives. This order will be done jointly with the Illinois DOT. The first TRE Charger will be delivered in the summer of 2026.

Here is the TRE news item. Tap Presentation to see the details.

First 5 new Charger locomotives coming from local funding, the next 4 new Charger locomotives are relying upon receiving a Federal match of 50% of the total costs for 9 new l0ocomotives.

Apparently the 2 F59PHI streamline locomotives still have approximately 8 years of useful life remaining.

TRE has a new train stop in Fort Worth. Will it spur major growth on this side of city?

TRE has a new station but it is not an additional station. It replaces the Richland Hills Station since Richland Hills voted to leave Trinity Metro and stopped paying the tax.

Whether this new station to the east of 820 has more effect on development than the Richland Hills Station is doubtful.

That is some impressive development, I hope it gets built. I hope they provide for some parking and bus bays.

With Richland Hills Station shutting down, there are now zero TRE stations between 35W and East Loop 820.

Zero convenient stations for anyone living in this area.

Trinity Metro should consider building a TRE station at Beach Street.

Quite frankly, this should have happened YEARS ago...

Totally Agree.  I think it could possibly create a TOD near the silos and give a boost to that section of Beach and to the United Riverside area.

While I agree that a station at Beach is a great idea, I don't know that this station closing created any inconvenience that wasn't already there.  The new one is less than a mile down the track and a mile and a quarter away over roads.  No one was walking to the Richland Hills station and anyone that was driving to it will drive to the new one.

I am all in favor of TODs around train stations and bus depots. The key to encouraging them is access, zoning, and taxing districts.

And of course, private enterprises looking for profits and leasers wishing to live and work in them.

All good things in a city's toolbox to promote (re)development, none of which the City of Richland Hills had enough when they couldn't fund rail service itself, but we have seen Grapevine and North Richland Hills have success with instead.
