Really wrapping up. They were installing trees back onto the 9th street sidewalk today and rebuilding the curbs. Should be open next month.

Austin, have you heard about an opening date next month? The last I heard, it was scheduled for right after the new year.

I was driving north on Commerce this evening and as I can around the curbed portion on commerce the building was lit up by the workers still on the site and I felt like it has already made that area of downtown feel alive. When the proposed apartment tower and Hilton Annex conversion are done I believe that this area will activate and possibly create another area of downtown that could become a destination.
Now only if we can start workin on removing the Commerce Street curb asap.
Two things we are in agreement on: a future area of activity and a removal of sort - the newly crowned ugliest structure in Downtown...the Convention Center Power Plant.
By the way, where is the parking?...OMG you don't even know that there is any..."Design Team---terrific job!"

It illuminates a too long dark corner of Downtown. It will be great once more entertainment and dining options come to pass in this area.

I will take a better photo, once the hotel is open. I had my good camera with me, but I was going to have to set everything up, including a tripod, so since there was equipment in front and they were working on the north side of the building, I decided to wait to take a higher resolution picture. I don't know if you noticed it, but one of the vertical cove strips was not working tonight.

According to the hotel's Facebook page, they opened on October 19th. That is the day I took my photograph. Unfortunately, they didn't look open. However, I was by there today and they somewhat appeared to be open. Brian Luenser took a picture tonight and the vertical cove lighting on the north side and the blade sign on the same facade were still not working.

Last Saturday night, the window curtains were open and it looked like there were people in the lobby.

PeopleAreStrange, Tommy Simmons (a forum lurker and meeting attendee), and I went into the Hampton Inn & Suites today after the Downtown Fort Worth Walking Tour. The hotel is open, and has been for three weeks.

The interior of the hotel is very nice. It's the nicest Hampton Inn to which I have been inside. I need to get a good nighttime photo, but I don't know if I will add it to the architectural listings on the main part of the site.

I am glad we are seeing more and more buildings downtown where the parking garage is incorporated within the building instead of stand alone.

Yes, from two of the three street frontages, it is difficult to tell where the parking is located, at least during the day. From my night shot, it is a little more obvious that the parking is on the 2nd and 3rd levels. After looking at the interior, a good bit of the first floor on the southeast side of the building is also parking.

I have a question for the Forum Members to have an influence on the website. Do you think the Hampton Inn & Suites should have a listing as an Architecturally Significant Building? Answer yes or no, but also continue the discussion on the building.

Hampton Inn & Suites - ASB: Yes.

Im leaning towards yes on this one.

John, what is the standard for architecturally significant?
Sometimes it seems that can be better judged after 20 years, when we have time to see if the building is a quality representative of the design of the period.
If I were just judging the architecture, I;d call it inoffensive -- it "does no harm". So if our standards are modest, then yes, its "significant", IMO.

An attractive low-rise hotel that lights up a dismal side of downtown, yes. Architecturally significant? No.

Maybe, I should have asked the forum if they think it is worth listing on the site. I'm quite sure some of the newer buildings that I have already listed really aren't architecturally significant, but they still were included due to my subjectivity. This is an attractive low rise hotel that normally wouldn't be listed on my site. Yet, it does add some activity and light to a dark and rather barren part of downtown. It would have been nice if it was a high-rise, but considering the site is just about equal to one city block, they had the room to spread the building out and still build to the maximum footprint.

Here are the two photographs that I will be using for the website, since most of you think it deserves a listing on the main website. The daytime photograph was taken on November 5th and the nighttime photo was taken on November 17th.
