This bridge is nearing a critical phase of construction. Perhaps some new photos are in order as the arches are prepared for positioning? Unfortunately it looks like the Cash America building completely blocks the view of the final bridge location from The Tower which will limit some photo opportunities.

I'll be stopping by soon. Definitely plan on getting some videos and stuff of the arches being moved, but I imagine others will to, surely that will be a news making event.

Very little work has happened above ground. It's going to be several more months before the arches are moved into place.

I went by the arch site today to get some photos. All 12 arches are now complete and standing upright. As seen in this photo, the three arches in the southwesternmost corner of the site (left side of photo) have already been reinforced for hoisting.

 

 

Meanwhile, on the existing 7th street bridge, work has begun to prepare for arch installation. The permanent green guardrails have been removed at the easternmost column locations and replaced with temporary fencing.

 

 

Down at ground level, the beginning of the footing installation is underway. Once those footings are complete and columns begin to rise, I think we can expect arches to begin to move into place- I'd guess less than a month at current pace. The current 7th street bridge will go to one lane both directions when this happens, but the bridge won't totally close until all 12 arches are in place. The folks who impressively planned this out construction like clockwork surely aren't from the group responsible for the Hulen bridge fiasco!

Perhaps as a more tangible memorial to the late Mr. Cliburn, the city should consider renaming the newly reconstructed Seventh Street Bridge as the Van Cliburn Bridge.  What do you think?

Arch Adams Street from the Will Roger's tower was renanmed Van Cliburn Way as it connects the museums to Camp Bowie

We are creating 2 panoramas for the March 2013 World Wide Panorama Event "Scale". Our subject for this event is the 7th Street Bridge.

 

These panorama image sets were taken yesterday Sunday 24 March 2013.

 

SUNDT is the construction contractor. Their schedule indicates April 2013 the sidewalks and outside lanes will be closed. Then in May after Mayfest they will close the bridge to traffic.

 

The bridge panorama (4 RAW images) was taken with our Canon 5d and Sigma 8mm 180° fisheye lens (at 0, 90, 180, 270°). We used PTgui to stitch the 4 images together.

 

The storage yard was completed in the same fashion.. but we cropped out a center cut showing just 12 arches.

 

Will let y'all know when the World Wide Panorama event goes public.  Should be around 5 April 2013.

At the top of the page find small Indices linking to Alphabetical, Regional, Thumbnails and Map (world).

According to the S-T website, one archway was moved 500 feet to a staging position this afternoon and will be hoisted into place on Friday.  Another will be hoisted into place late Friday or Saturday.

Visited with TxDOT on site. Will begin at 10:00AM to cross the bridge into place at the far eastern side of the bridge. Had to assemble a second crane today to hoist the arch.

Those arches look massive compared to the existing structure.  Is that over-done for architectural purposes?  And, how much more will that design cost than something with less bling?

Zaner, you can't actually post photos on this site.  You must host the photos somewhere else and use the "Image" button to direct where to find the photo.  For example, I keep my photos in a folder on my business web site since I have plenty of server space not being used.

From the latest pictorial posting, I had a completely different understanding of the traffic flow during the construction phase.  The bridge, though narrowed, remains open to traffic.

It will only remain open to traffic until the arches are in place.  It should only be closed for about 5 months.

The arches will indeed be lit at night. It is going to be quite a photogenic bridge. Even better than MHH in my opinion, because it's a human scaled bridge versus a monstrosity. There will be pedestrian and bike lanes outside of the arches which will make it wonderful for both of those activities without worrying about getting run over by a car.

Furthermore, the contractor has financial incentives to complete the job early, and financial penalties for completing it late. I think there is a 30 day "neutral zone" in there too. So don't be surprised if this is done early. All again in stark contrast to the never-ending Hulen bridge debacle.

This is a great question and one that I have no idea on either. And remember it's not just the deck between the arches but also the pedestrian and bike lanes that cantilever beyond the arches! Mucho impressed with this project.
