Global management consulting firm McKinsey & Co. has created a report entitled "How to make a city great: A review of the steps city leaders around the world take to transform their cities into great places to live and work".
This link leads to a web page that has a summary and a short (~10 min.) video. It has a link to the report (PDF), but downloading it requires registering on their site. Registration is free and worth every penny. Lots of good information on their site.
