The CHB is literally right next to Wild Salsa.

There's still no word on the Hooters.

I was in there... didn't get a burger because I was in a rush to get home, but it will be a favorite. Glad I don't have to go to Dallas for it.

I was in downtown today for the Walking Tour, and I was planning to eat lunch, but I was a little tired and I decided to go home after the tour.  Therefore, I didn't eat out.  I saved money, but I missed my chance to have lunch in downtown.

I noticed as I drove north on Throckmorton today that work is being done on the space that was supposed to be Hooters. I saw no sign communicating that Hooters would be coming, but something is on the way.

Quite a lot of work going on in the area fronting 3rd Street as well. I think this will space as part of Aloft.

I've only stayed in an Aloft once, but the one I did stay in had a really nice lobby: multiple seating areas, a bar, a convenience store, a check-in desk that looked more like a department store check out counter than what you see in most hotels.

Dang, that was quick.

See, this is why that part of town *needs* Hooters- to attract foot traffic.

There's a lot of work going on at Hooters. Already have some of the bar and whatnot built up from what I've seen walking past.

Chop house has a really tiny space and was full when I went at lunch recently, but then most downtown places do well for lunch no matter. Wild Salsa usually has a decent crowd.

I think that's going to be a vibrant area eventually, when Town Lake is in place I think the "center of mass" of downtown will shift in that direction and there will be more natural traffic there.  In the meantime it will need destination businesses that will draw traffic, like Hooters.

I could see where the two places you named will pull through okay, since they hopefully can survive on lunch business from TCC and the courthouse.

I frequent Wild Salsa often. I have only been to Avanti once and the interior was very bare and echo-y. I haven't had the desire to go back. I think this was somewhat about location but more about lacking ambiance, imo.

Aloft's blade sign was delivered this morning, it will go at the SE corner. I believe another will go at the SW corner as well. It also mentions the WXYZ bar that which will be part of the hotel in the ground floor.

In following up on Austin's post, here are a couple of photos that I took today of the base of the building.  The first, is the entire 3rd Street frontage of the building.

The second is a close up shot of the southeast corner of the building with the new 3 sided sign.

I actually kinda liked those 3 story high banner signs that were there before. The Aloft sign is slick though. Need to clean up where the prior sign was and it'll be good. I assume another Aloft sign will go up at the other side of the building to.

I also kind of liked the banner signs that were left on the building from the Fort Worth Outlet Center days.  However, the triangular Aloft signs are pretty nice.  You are correct in that the corners of the building should be cleaned up where the previous signs were located.

Driving by the soon-to-open Hooters last night I realized how the interior lighting really lit up what was once a very dark section of Throckmorton.

Once it opens the energy of the restaurant will help stretch downtown activity to the Northwest of Sundance Square and hopefully give that area a real boost of much needed pedestrian energy. Too bad Avanti's wasn't able to hang in there and stick around. IMO they arrived to and left the City Place party too early.

Maybe...

Or maybe it just wasn't the best restaurant for that area? Some restaurants don't work in certain places, so it could have been that, as well.

Something will replace that space in no time after Hooters is open, I'm sure.

In all seriousness, I'm hoping for something that sort of matches CHB and Wild Salsa in the $11-30 price range, not over like Avanti.

Can't really think of something that would fit at the moment.

I don't believe that would be a good turn of events.

Even though these businesses are "soft" adult venues, I think it would risk this area becoming a "row" of such places and it would be easy for this area to go "harder".

Maybe the best place for it is the space in Montgomery Plaza that was formerly Bite City, then King Crab Taphouse, then M Bistro and now Honey Smokehouse BBQ. Of course that all depends on if Honey Smokehouse doesn't succeed, which I hope it does.

If not there, then maybe it could go in the row of closed businesses where Into the West and Revolver Taco Lounge once stood.

I'm not sure what you mean by a "Row"... there is nothing else around there besides the central library, parking lots and some office buildings. None of those places have retail storefronts. Plus Ojos is not much different from Hooters, which may be what you are talking about when you mention a row.

As much as I want to dislike it, that's actually not terrible looking.  I'll never be a patron, but I'm sure they will drive some traffic to a quiet area of downtown.

The sign and the bands are reverse metal channels with lights on the inside that give a halo effect.  This is pretty subtle, and was done to satisfy the area residents.  City Place should become pretty active by the holiday season with Hooters, Wild Salsa, Chop House Burger, and the Aloft Hotel all in operation.  Maybe then, Avanti's old space and the smaller space immediately to the west will be able to be leased.

I drove by this weekend and it was full... there were twice as many people in Hooters than CHB & Wild Salsa combined and both of those places had a good crowd.
I guess branding does truly make a difference.
