I know there is post about downtown nightlife, but I couldn't find it. Here's a link to the information about this changeover in the Fort Worth Weekly. http://www.fwweekly.com/2013/05/21/queen-city-music-hall-coming-to-downtown-fort-worth/

I'm sort of bummed because it looks like I won't get to go to Lone Star. I kept putting it off.

The club was wack, lol, I wish they would put a hip-hop club in downtown Fort Worth. That would bring the city more money and attraction.

I wish we could have the Caravan of Dreams back. Saw some great R&B and comedic performances there in the 90's - Mint Condition, Lo-Key, Erykah Badu and George Wallace among others.

This is exciting to me - my band's played a lot of shows put on by Blackbox, the booking company involved in this, at places like Lola's and The Grotto.  Having a music venue of that capacity with people who get the scene is a big deal.

Couldn't agree more.  This is a very big deal and extremely exciting.  Exactly (one of the things) Fort Worth really needed.

I presume the Bass Brothers had a hand in this and if so, kudos to them.

It makes sense that a place like this would be in a basement venue.  Everything above it will be closed when the club is hopping.  No nearby resident to complain about whatever.  Close enough to the middle of everything to be accessible.  I like it.

Personally I think the old gymnasium on the southside would make a great hip-hop club.  You could put on a decent sized show down there, cool space, lots of character.  Don't know where people would park, though.

Actually credit goes to Blackbox Productions and Vinnie Paul.

Do the Basses have to approve everything or are they pretty much out of it at this point?

They own the real estate.  So, yeah they certainly signed off.

I didn't mean to take anything away from Vinny and Blackbox.  I have zero doubt they were vital (as well) and probably have an appropriate amount at risk.

It just seems like several of the things that are unique and needed downtown (in my opinion) were spurred by Bass/Campbell/SS,Inc.  Scat and Trinity Bicycle comes to mind.  I have plenty of love for the other contributors to the urban core, but this one just wreaked of Bass Inc to me.

To Hannerhan's point, if they didnt want it here, it wouldnt be here.  I hope this is the first of many partnerships for all involved.  (Can you tell I am excited???)

The success of this venue will greatly depend on the acts they book.  I have my finger crossed these guys can at least get some Granada/Kessler-type artists.

I hear what you're saying, and I'm sure it's true.

Maybe I am naive, but....

Does that put anyone else off though? A major downtown attraction so controlled by a small set of individuals?  I'm glad they signed off on it, but it would be great if their approval wasn't required to get things like this going.

It puts me off...just a bit.  But they are the owner of the land.  I wasnt here in the 1980s but I hear the area wasn't anything to write home about.  I think we are EXTREMELY fortunate to have multiple brothers in the Forbes 400 list willing to reinvest in such a concentrated area.  As long as they do things that other people have had the (legal) opportunity to do in terms of the American Dream, and in turn create such a wonderful community playground - I have no problem with it.  I have more of a problem when they get unfair tax cuts or preferential treatment from the local government, or supposedly try to chase off other area developers (such as the sunken plaza project), but even then I respect their rights to protect their interest.

In my opinion, we should celebrate their commitment to the area, the arts, and the community.  I have no problem that they benefit from their investment.

Especially in the case of Queen City...they are trying to create an appropriate mix of tenants in the area.  This can be viewed a number of ways but I am for it.

Just my two cents on the Bass thing...

Do any of us make a peep when a developer decides which retailer to lease a strip mall vacancy to? Nope, and we shouldn't here. It is their land because they bought it when nobody wanted it. They built things when nobody wanted to come downtown. They added security to make it safer. If they want a new music venue in their basement its their call.

But then again, that may be my libertarian side speaking. :smwink:
