Super Slow Forum Web Response

Being an old computer guy I first suspected my computer or the Charter cable connection. I went through and tuned up everythibng, defragged and then worked on the Registry. I checked the firewall & virus checker. Everything looked OK and the other web pages snapped up acceptably fast considering that I have an older 2.8GHz Pentium 4. Charter recently upgraded my service and I have seen a big increase in download speed from other sources so I think the cable and modem and router are alright.
Then I began doing comparisons of the Forum loads vs other web sources like Fox, CNN, Star-Telegram, Google, etc. The Forum is MUCH slower by as much as a factor of 10 times to load. Once a page is loaded, the time between the next page is also very slow. The progress bar tells the tale. It can easily take 30 seconds to get to a page.
It is so slow that I have just started doing other stuff waiting for the Forum to load or to go to a new page.
After all this, it's hard to believe that this is something happening only on my computer. Are others of you having this problem?

One thing: If the speed on the other standard internet links like CNN, Fox, etc. is normal and consistent, then it is unlikely that the problem is in the wire, modem or router. And if the speed difference shows on just one sample computer then it is unlikely that the computer is discriminating between one web site and another. In the same way it is unlikely that the firewall and/or virus software is discriminating against the Forum site.
I appreciate your replies and comments and hope that someone will come up with something.
Thanks
