I'm proposing some changes to the Fort Worth Forum. First of all, the Recreational Sports and Activities sections still just doesn't have much of an audience. I'm thinking about merging it with
Arts and Entertainment" and calling it "Arts, Entertainment, Sports and Recreation".

Jack White has joined the Fort Worth forum and has requested that we set up a section for discussion of Historic Photographs. I first thought that the Local History section would be the proper place to discuss the photos and historic events, but I'm willing to set up a separate section. It could be its own forum section, or it could be a sub-forum under Local History. What do you all think?

I saw this over on the Skyscraperpage.com forum. They have a section similar to our "Projects and New Construction" to discuss proposed projects and official construction threads. When a project is finished, how about moving that thread over to "Fort Worth Architecture"? That way a project can still be discussed when it is completed and there is a record of its construction progress.

I would appreciate any feedback.

All three ideas have merit, John. Historic Photographs might be a bit specialized for its own section, but that's what experimentation is all about.

I do think the idea with the biggest plus is moving the threads from "Projects and New Construction" to Fort Worth Architecture. This will keep double topics down. Why have a separate topic to discuss the finished project?

I do agree with you that Historic Photographs might be too specialized. However, now that the Jack White Collection has become an integral part of the web site, it does deserve some attention on the forum. Maybe the compromise is the sub-forum under Local History.

By the way, the Jack White photographs are averaging about 50 hits per day. I can remember when I first started this web site and I was excited when the whole site received 50 hits in one day. The site is now averaging 16,000 hits per month.

I think the changes are fine.

It's not really possible to create a classification scheme that is universally perfect for at least a couple of reasons:

1) Such classifications are ultimately intended to make it easier for people to find information; however, we don't all look for information in the same way and we don't all mentally organize information the same way.

2) The subjects of threads can cover many topics (even without digressive tangents). Look at the Montgomery Wards/Super Target thread: aspects of that topic could reasonably classified under Commercial; Residential; Historic Buildings and Preservation; City Issues; and Urban Design and Planning. While each of these aspects of the project might arguably have its own thread, they will still often cover the same material.

As for the historic photographs, I don't have an issue with that being a separate forum. As I said, the classification scheme is to help people find information; if you want to actively make it possible for people to find (and hopefully discuss) specific topics that are more narrowly defined, then making them a separate forum is a valid way of doing so. It's sort of a step above pinning a topic.

Wow, never noticed the Recreational Sports and Activities section. I'm going to check that out. That might be where I can find a work out buddy.

Thank you all for all of the work you do!!!

I have now added a Sub-Forum for Historic Photographs under the Local History section. The purpose of this is to primarily discuss the photos in the Jack White Collection.

It's something I have been meaning to do for months. Now it is done and when the skyline changes dramatically, then I will switch out the photograph.

Err, what new banner? All I'm seeing is the "Invision Power Board" logo.

Change your skin to the IPB 2.1 Default. You have a choice of two, and both will work. The second one will allow you to see the new polling features that we instituted about one year ago.

Is the banner not supposed to be visible when someone is not logged in?

Well, didn't change anything, and now I'm seeing the banner. So, hey, whatever. The skyline looks great!

Jonny, if you are logged out, you should still be able to see the banner. Are you sure you have your skin set to IBP 2.1 Default?

Kevin, maybe your page didn't refresh before.

Thanks John. That's a great picture. I love the MW Plaza in front and the skyline. Where did you take this shot? Looks like you were standing on top of Casa Manana!

Julie, I actually did climb up the dome of Casa Manana. smilewinkgrin.gif

The picture was taken from the University of North Texas Health Science Center. Again, thank you for the comments. This was something I should have done months ago, but was too lazy to spend about one hour to design the banner.

I have a slight change here on the forum. I finally found the calendar settings that should have been changed months ago. Events for both calendars can now be added without Moderator or Administrator approval. So, if you have a community or recreational event that you feel that members of the forum would have an interest, please post them.

I would appreciate the following format for the titles:

Date abbreviation-time: Event name

An example would be:
Dec 31-11 PM: Meeting
