I hope it's ok to post this, he may not want his personal business out there.

I saw on facebook that some friends had mentioned John was in the hospital. This was posted on the 17th.

John Roberts was hit by a car by the WoodShed this afternoon. He has a broken arm and hip, but they are doing further tests. He has asked for prayers.

Earlier today,

Hey folks - I just got an update from Kalleen. John had to go back into the ER last night for a blood clot. Still there I believe. Very serious development - please keep him in your thoights and prayers.

It seems we should all be keeping him in our thoughts and prayers.

Wow that is some hard news. The good thing is that John is young, he must be as we are the same age. John, you are in our thoughts. Now get better and go home.

That's not good! Hopefully he can recover.

Was John on his bike? Looking at Bing maps, it doesn't appear the bike trail crosses any roads in that area.

Dylan - Austin's post didn't say anything about him being on the trail.

I work with a gentleman that is in the FW Bicycle Association with John and this is the email that was sent to the members this afternoon.

"Thursday afternoon update. Continued progress. The major problem being treated is infection and lung function caused by fluid aspiration. For that he is in a machine to help clear that. To be in that device, he is heavily sedated, hence low responsiveness. Blot clot prognosis was speculative and unconfirmed, but being treated for just in case. Will continue like this until lung and infection under control. Continued cautious optimism and prayers!"

According to my co-worker John was coming off the trail, but he didn't know exactly where.

As all are I am praying for John's speedy recovery.

There are trail exits in two locations in that area:  at the east end of Riverfront Drive near University, and on Rogers opposite the Woodshed.

Friday Morning John R update. John's numbers continue to improve. They expect to improve his designated status later today, although he will remain in ICU and still has a way to go. (Any rumors you may have heard to the contrary are incorrect.) Keep them prayers comin'!

Get well soon, John. Take things easy until you are recovered.

I hope my wife doesn't see this - she's scared to ride on the roads and will only ride on the trails. I've been telling her how the drivers are really courteous and there is nothing to worry about.

Really this couldn't have happened to a better person. Bike safety and courtesy seems to come a long way in the past few years but still has a ways to go.

Haven't seen anything new on John's condition.

I'm passing along the update my coworker sent to me:

"Saturday was a really good day for John! The doctors did a 4 hour test on his breathing and he did very well, maintaining strong oxygen levels. The doctors are now thinking through how to be able to have him do breathing therapy and physical therapy at the same time when he gets off the ventilator. It will be very tough, but with what has happened, it is a good problem to have. Even though he is making very good progress, he needs to remain heavily sedated, so still please hold off on trying to visit. Cards are starting to come in, and the folks who are there are reading them to him, taping them up, and he will be able to read them himself soon. Keep the prayers and cards coming!"

Here's another update with an address for cards:

"John’s steady progress continues!  Doctors made a major adjustment in his position in the ventilator today, and are adjusting his various settings to get him breathing more on his own and to get his body more ready to be back in motion and on its own.  The critical factor will be his ability to keep his blood oxygen levels up more on his own.  They are trying to get him off the machine, un-sedated, and up and around as soon as he can. No timeline, but hopefully pretty soon.  Cards are coming in, and folks up there are reading them to him every day.  If you haven’t sent one yet, please do so he can read it himself soon.  Address reminder:

Another update:

The docs continue to work to work to stabilize John's vitals and to bring him out of sedation. Still having bp and pulse rate variations, so they are taking it slow. It looks like he is somewhat conscious of visitors, but that actually appears to aggravate his bp and hr, so please really dont plan any visits still. Prayers and cards are great - keep them coming!

Alright... Enough of the flowers and candy. John has been one of the biggest supporters of Fort Worth since Amon Carter. I think it's time we said how much he means to us and how much he has done for this forum and Fort Worth. I'm calling for a bike ride and or an event to tell J T Roberts how much he means to us and FWT. Who's with me?

Update and a new address for cards. FYI-I am getting these updates from a co-worker that bikes with John. I have only meet John once, but was very impressed with his knowledge of all things Fort Worth.

I'm glad to hear that he is coming along.

JR Update - John is having some good spells now when they can reduce the sedation, responding to folks as well as he can, recognizing visitors, smiling at videos of his vacationing dogs! Still struggling with abdominal issues and using the vent, so he is still a ways from discussing Ft Worth architecture with visitors. Let's let the staff bring him along a little more before we open the floodgates, but definitely encouraging.

When and where? Let's stay out of the traffic, OK? I would even be up to an historical architecture tour led by some list members who are familiar with John's presentations, on bikes maybe?

This update is from Tuesday:

JR Update - John looked GREAT today! (Well, as great as one can look under the circumstances!) When i went in his room I was delighted to see him awake and looking quite alert. He tried his best to communicate with me, but he can't talk while still attached to the vent. I jabbered about all of the folks keeping up and praying for him, what's going on, how the dogs are doing, etc... he seemed to understand all of it and tried to engage. I could tell it was wearing him out so i headed out, but i think he really enjoyed the chat and I was really encouraged. Nurses were pretty optimistic, just still working on how to work feeding/nutrition. Yay!

I went to the hospital to see John this afternoon.  He is still on the ventilator and they weening him from the sedation he is awake but unable to speak. Does not remember what happened, but he looks ok but haggard.  He is in the Harris specialty hospital on the 4th floor of the Harris tower. At least he knew me and the nurse there could read his lips to tell me what he was saying.

A recent update by way of my co-worker...John is improving significantly! They have knocked down a significant infection, gotten his meds changed/adjusted so that he is now able to come out of sedation, and have him very able to communicate. He is asking/answering complex questions by writing, he knows all the folks who have written in his visitor book, he is mouthing words to talk (still has trac in so can't actually talk, and that should still come out), and best of all they are planning to get him up and out of bed to test out his hip. Thanks SO much to all of you who have been praying for John's healing - he is WAY better! Now before you drop what you are doing and run up to the hospital - please still hold off. To see John you have to gown and glove up to protect him and you from potent infection... We do NOT want him to go through that again. Stand by, hopefully the time is near! A very dedicated crew is looking in on him and they are working very hard not to wear him out.

My co-worker shared a great report about John today...

Best news ever - John is up, getting out of bed, talking, and enjoying visitors. Please be sensitive to not wearing him out, no more than 2 in the room at a time, so check with the nurses' station when you get there. Still no flowers. Oh - and he has his mobile phone so you can probably text him if you already have his number. Any more info you can ask him yourself! Hallelujah!

Somebody take the man an extra long charging cord.  It can be difficult for the charging cable to reach from the wall plug to the bed and then he become dependent on visitors or hospital staff to plug the phone in to charge for him.

If he is up and walking, then my best wishes for him are to be going home sooner rather than later.

Good Luck, John.
