the ramps on that mixmaster would stay.

Really? What would they connect to if I-35 wasn't there?

To the North, you'd have the continuation of 35W.

To the South, it would be towards the new "Grand Boulevard" I have in mind. It would only be a couple lanes for the on/off ramps.

Driving up I-35 this morning and looking at the I-35/I-30 mixmaster, which has ramps to the Express Lanes.  Hard to believe the toll authority, the state, the feds, the railroad, will be able get behind this plan.  I suppose there is some level of synergy potentially with the I-30 Corridor Project, but I don't think they're going to want to add cost to that.  It would have to be in line for after that is complete which will likely take a decade or more to complete.  Interesting study but I'm not sure it could ever get traction.

It's just a thought.

Besides, the ramps on that mixmaster would stay. The only thing that's changing is that section of 35W.

It doesn't seem that useful at this point. There are also railroad tracks and industry cutting up that area too.

Improving the Morningside Drive overpass with some kind of deck plaza/park to replace that towering pedestrian overpass would be interesting though.

I'm going to get into that.

The Train re-route to make this happen:

So the red is the new track alignment?  Which sections would be abandoned?  (Not clear to me from looking at the map.)  Would it be branch that runs between the proposed and I-35?

Everything north of the western section of the new alignment. There would be no need for it anymore.
