As to the overhead lines surrounding the site these old transmission lines are grandfathered by Oncor. Really difficult and overly expensive to bury or work around. The West 7th. Urban Village area really needs major utility upgrades to continue to grow. Not much city bond funds are being used in the center city. In fact they were reduced by city council in favor of suburban projects. Underground utilities at Trinity Left Bank are burdening the project with extraordinary cost with very little focus by the city on supporting the needed infrastructure required for that major infill development. Priorities really need to be examined. Balancing where the tax base is generated vs. where we spend should be seriously considered by stall and council.

#93986 Cultural District Roundabout

Having lived through all the discussions on the roundabout. There are no existing examples of placing the diameter circle available with over 50,000 vehicles going through it a day. Europe has traffic circles and not modern roundabouts. The city engaged a world famous authority to review the counter directed entry points and found the design flawed.

#91672 FW Camera to build and move to Montgomery St.

Posted by PPoole on 25 May 2015 - 06:27 PM

The street frontage along Montgomery is a made up of a very large arena surrounded by about 50 acres of surface parking lots. Not very pedestrian scaled. So the building doesn't focus on  Montgomery street. It does allow for pedestrian traffic to find its way to the building from the rest of The Cultural District. The siting also acknowledges the scale of the bungalows along Crestline Road and places the parking field along the alley at the south side of the site.

In working on the Left Bank project on 7th went back to the 1914 Trinity River map. What a real difference the original river channel was to the city.not syre we improved it.

#75522 City's new focus: Rail?

Posted by PPoole on 23 February 2013 - 10:59 AM

Rejecting the TIGER  Grant for streetcars has certainly influenced the DOT on our commitment to rail and an integrated transit network. I believe we will see a return to the streetcar study soon. The same funds we rejected and were awarded to Oak Cliff nearly covered their entire cost. A demonstration that the costs of construction are coming down as more cities execute projects. The city wasted a great opportunity! The amount of traffic and population density along 7th Street coupled with the mergence of Magnolia and the efforts on South Main will set the stage for linking the center city areas together and connecting to TEXRail . I feel that the streetcar would however be best developed by a non profit formed by the private sector and run independently from the T.A lot of folks support the streetcar project and politically surpressing it wil be harder to do in the future. The council members positions would be a great question for each as they seek election in May.
