Hello! I'm looking for any historical information regarding the old Post Office on Race Street that was damaged by fire and now is being used for the Race St. Markets. In general, I'd also be interested in details related to all the palm trees on that street and art deco vibe. Any help would be appreciated!

The "Sylvania Station Post Office" in Riverside at 2925 was built ca. 1946, at a time when most of Race Street was still residential, although transitioning to commercial. Prior to that date, the Sylvania Station Post Office was located inside Scott's Drug Store, down the street at Six Points (now home to Mamma Mia Restaurant). In 1968 the Riverside post office was moved to a new building a few blocks away on Retta Street (still operating). The old post office at 2925 Race was later the home for many years of Midas Rex, a medical device company. In the early 2000s a developer bought a large number of commercial properties on Race Street, including the old post office, and envisioned transforming Race Street and giving it a South Beach/Miami vibe. He added some new facades, bright pastel paint colors, palm trees, neon lights and other decorative elements but was ultimately not successful with his vision. Most of these properties are now owned or under contract to a new developer, and we are hopeful that he will be more successful in revitalzing Race Street.

Thank you! That is more information than I could find and is very helpful. I, too, hope that this area is successful in revitalization!

I'm glad it's helpful. Just curious, what is your interest? Most Fort Worth folks aren't interested in this part of town.

Here's a sneak peak event of the building being used as an "Event & Market Venue".
