This is a great map. It tells a lot about the city's history. North Fort Worth, Niles City, Polytechnic, and Handley were all once separate municipalities.

That is interesting. Any idea what the four digit numbers represent?

The four digit numbers represent the date of the area annexed. The City of Fort Worth was incorporated in 1873. The black area labeled with "Original Town Site 1873" shows the city limits adopted with the incorporation of the city. It appears that the first annexation was east of S. Main and south of E. Terrell Ave. in 1890. Fairmount was annexed in 1891. You can then follow the progression outward until the last year shown of 1948. Somewhere, I have seen a map that extends the timeline outward to the current city boundaries, but I have not been able to come across that map today.

It would be interesting to see a current version with all the expansion up till now.
