"...the latest news that the bank is relocating from 777 Main into the new building". JTR

Even when they named the City Center Tower for them, I never really felt like D. R. Horton was a Fort Worth company. Still, sorry to see them leave.

Fort Worth's skyscrapers are today 30+ years old; and new buildings are accelerating their decline in being competitive. Should Sundance and 777 Main undergo some radical makeover/appearance as was done for The Tower and Cash America?

IMO a fresh look is now in order.

As I mentioned in another thread, I really think City Place should have been residential instead of office oriented.

I'd just take whatever takes up the space in those towers and put it in 777. As for the building itself, I think a re-clad would be great.

1 Railside Tower
Height: 528'
Floors: 40
Site: 13th,14th,Jones & Calhoun block
Type: Office

This tower is just filler for a bigger idea. I wouldn't want to settle on something as basic as this.

- Ground floor: Office, retail/restaurant facing Jones
- Design: *basic box with a few setbacks and a curve on one side*
- Style: Post-Modern
- Facade Material: dark and light blue curtain wall, grey metal siding.

The Radisson on Lancaster Ave.
Height: 327'
Floors: 21
Site: current TWC building
Type: Mixed-Use Hotel

22940352941_b467404a5a_b.jpg

The shorter side of the hotel, facing Lancaster, would feature ground level entertainment (like a Dave & Busters or Main Event) and retail. The next levels of this side would be ballrooms, board rooms, a game room, workout facilities, and an auditorium. Inside is also garage and basement parking. The top of it would be a rooftop greenspace and plaza.

The ground level of the 13th Street side would be the main entrance of the hotel. The tower would be rooms and the top is space for a 5 star restaurant.

It would be a MAJOR feature of the Lancaster Corridor if built.

Fort Worth Wyndham Convention Center Hotel
Height: 494'
Floors: 30
Site: current extension of the Convention Center/Commerce
Type: Hotel

25299545590_85a598e1cc_b.jpg

Unlike the Omni, the entire building would be a hotel. The base would contain mostly parking, check-in lobby, meeting rooms, ballroom, store, and dining. The floor that seperates the tower from the base contains fitness rooms, indoor pool, and other space for leisure.

25476566092_233979e166_b.jpg

The mesh that covers the parking garage would contain any kind of imagery that can be changed every 6 months or so, showing major events that are happening at the Convention Center or around the core of the city.

I appreciate it.

But I realize I forgot something... The openings to the garage.

They're supposed to be on Calhoun and Commerce.

I really like the design, but I think to avoid the table top effect on our skyline it needs to be a different height. Something arounf 350 ft to create more infill or something over 600ft and possibly thinner.

I was basing it on the 1,000 rooms projected, plus extra parking for the Convention Center.

Realistically, I don't see the real one being built any taller than what I have here.

I do understand that this is simply a suggested rendering, but such a design may be more interesting if it "played-off" the AT&T Building; perhaps coloring and facade to mirror the AT&T as a modern bookend. :)

500 W. 7th expansion
Height: 447'
Floors: 24
Site: 500 W. 7th
Type: Mixed-use, Entertainment

26161625763_d08e6fc8cd_b.jpg

Connecting to the south side of the existing building, this expansion would add studio space for local tv and radio stations as well as more office space. The base would also feature LED billboards, advertising what the city's activities, local concerts, media ads, and whatever the building would consist of.

26698105811_ba7f9472ac_b.jpg

The idea for the base of the building, which is 3 floors, would be restaurant and studios overlooking the park.

26161625303_a3f3baa267_b.jpg

A few tenants I'd have in mind for the expansion is Funimation Studios, CBS 11, and a headquarters for Fuzzy's Taco Shop. It could hold 4 major restaurants and 4 smaller, fast food places.

- Design: Trapazoidal frame
- Style: Modern
- Facade Material: Black curtain wall, white concrete

Although I find the building interesting I'm not a big fan of the location or it being right next to the BOA building.... The juxtaposition of black glass next to concrete feels really out of place. move that building closer to the upper west side and I'd totally be down with it. Possible a companion to the Mallick tower.

People in the BOA tower facing south would lose their view and natural light.

This isn't a stand alone tower... it's an expansion of the south side of the original building.

500 W. 7th - interesting idea.  I wonder what SOM, the building's architect, would recommend doing if asked to do this?

How big would the typical floor footprint be for the new building?

I haven't done floor plans in a while. I think it would be best to have the same footprint (judging from how I made it, it may be slightly bigger), but it would double the floor footprint of the original building.

Burnett Park Center
Height: 574'
Floors: 45
Site: Block directly south of Burnett Plaza.
Type: Office (top floor restaurant)

Sort of went back to the 80s with this design:
BC1_zpsygjqkafn.jpg

BC2_zps2zkvtawu.jpg

The design was made to sort of reflect the 80s but have some 21st century flair.

BC4_zpsodoe3ej0.jpg

BC3_zpsr1qe4dah.jpg

BC7_zpsj86tzzmp.jpg

Didn't want the height to be too overwhelming, either. So that's why it looks about the same as Burnett, even though it's taller.
BC5_zpsomaycxxh.jpg

And I'd plan to have retail opportunities there as well.

BC6_zpsfpcftadv.jpg

BC8_zpsgapovsjs.jpg

BC9_zpswv73kekm.jpg

Elevations:

Elevations_zps3vn6awzc.jpg

- Ground floor: Retail, Office
- Design: Modified box with zigzag facade on 2 sides and inclined on the other 2 sides
- Style: Post Modern redux
- Facade Material: Blue/Navy curtain walls, Light Grey metallic panels.

Handsome design. Location in the SW sector of CBD is great.  I would wish it to be 700ft/60 floors.

Thanks.

I think for this area, any new skyscraper should be between the 500 and 700 foot range. Didn't want it to be too overwhelming. Just enough to cover Burnett Plaza.

I would suggest maybe setting it back away from 10th street some so that there's a bit of a bigger gap between your proposal and Burnett. Would help open the park up a bit i think.

Maybe slanting the orientation to about 45 degrees away from the "park".

Here's a skyscraper idea for downtown Fort Worth.  Just kidding, of course.  You could stack five Burnett Plaza buildings one atop the other and still not  reach the height of the building photographed below.

I hate having inspiration but NO way to create anything, especially with some of the news we've been getting, like the former Chase Bank drive-thru shutting down and opening up for new development.

As soon as I get another computer, I'm going to design until my fingers bleed.
