I haven't heard any more about it, but I'm guessing that is still in the plans to do the demolition.

I guess I don't know the history on this building. Seems fairly modern. Why a demo instead of reuse?

From what I have heard, it is antiquated. I have also heard that it can't be renovated into other uses.

If that court bldg does get demolished, then will that open up an unobstructed view to the river or will the parking structure block the view ?

I've already offered my thoughts on what should be done with those two buildings

I don't think so, looks like that garage is 4-5 levels above Belknap.

Looks like they are rebuilding the sidewalks around the building now, really finishing up.
Has there been any talk on an actual name for it? New Civil Courthouse is a bit bland. And it won't be new forvever.

Well, the old Civil Courthouse didn't have a name, either. But I guess we could name it after a former major civic leader.

For now at least, the new building is just being called Tarrant County Civil Courts Building and the old building is retaining its name as the Tarrant County Courthouse. I suspect the confusion between the two will encourage the county to rename the new building...eventually.

Hmm. Let's see. The current criminal justice center was renamed for late D.A. Tim Curry. One of our federal buildings was named after late renowned federal judge Eldon B. Mahon. Fort Worth's police headquarters building is named after the late Chief Thomas R. Windham...to name a few. So who among the late great civil district attorneys will get the "in nominem" honor for the new courts building?.

Given in the age of Twitter and You-Tube and the skeletons yet to be uncovered, my hope is that there will not be any more honorariums. "The Tarrant County Civil Courts" sounds safe to me.

The last court building prior to this one is named the Family Law Center. Keep it simple and descriptive. How about the Civil Law Center? There have been so many outstanding civil judges over the last century that I have a hard time naming the building for only one.

Yes. It is being named for former County Judge Tom Vandergriff.

Someone really needs to determine the focal point for that curved wall. I'd love for it to be the top step on the east side of the old courthouse.

"The courthouse, unlike many modern structures, was built to last at least 100 years".

I had a hearing at the new courthouse last Friday. I have to say it is the nicest courthouse finish out that I have ever had the pleasure of practicing in.
I highly recommend people go and take a look at the interior and all the bells and whistles. It is nice and blows away anything I have ever seen.

Looking forward to going into this building one of these days when I'm on either side of a district court case. I think it's a shame they didn't move the county courts at law and probate courts over there, too, even though I like the old courthouse. In Dallas County the county courts at law, as well as the district courts, were moved into the George L. Allen Sr. Courts Building when it was constructed years ago.

Really liking this building. There's a kinda campus like feel going on now at the top of the bluff, with all the Law buildings and TCC. Vandergriff wraps it up well. And the actual Courthouse look sooooo much better.
