Here's a nifty old skyline postcard, complete with annotations:
Some notes:
A. It still amazes me how much of southern downtown is completely gone today.
B. The "Fort Worth National Bank" building is, of course, what we know today as the Transport Life Building, or 714 Main. The "Trinity Life Insurance Building" is the Aviation Building, the achingly gorgeous Art Deco tower demolished to build Carter + Burgess Plaza.
C. "Telephone Building," you say?
That's right, ladies and gents: unless I'm mistaken, you're looking at the beginnings of the SBC Building, before all the staggering ugliness was added to it over time. Hard to even recognize it in this form.
Postcards, Pt. 3 - Skyline/pre-ugly SBC Building

Kevin, I wouldn't call it the beginnings. What you are seeing here is a result of the second addition (1926) to the original 1899 Southwestern Bell Telephone building on the site. Please refer to: http://www.fortworth...re.com/swbt.htm for a complete history of the building and all of the additions. By the time the postcard was printed, SBC had already occupied all of the buildings along Throckmorton Street. The building to the north was constructed for the phone company in 1903 and was demolished around 1970.

Where is the HPLofts or the Flatiron?
Wish the Gen. Worth Square was filled in like that again.

I started to answer before that it looked like the perspective was from the Flatiron, but then I realized I was a block off and stopped myself. The perspective was from the old Federal Building / Post Office, a building we should never have lost but did. :-(

If you've been to the 29 Degree restaurant, then you know what I am talkin about. If you haven't then you must give it at least one try. Along the restroom hallway, they have these amazing FW Library Archive pic's of old FW. So cool, and much detail.
