Concrete can be more durable than asphalt if built properly, but that is not always the case. Poorly built concrete streets can be less durable than well built asphalt streets. It all depends upon the quality of the materials and craftsmanship.Concrete is more durable than asphalt.

The shiny white will dull down over time, especially the street. All those colored concrete pavers will dull too.
I took off my sunglasses when taking some photos and it was overly bright. Hopefully the landscaping and trees will fill out quickly.

Austin, on my way home from downtown last night, I drove home down Main, and the sculptures look nice. I really like the look of the street.

If you ask me they look like oversized trash cans. Not impressed.

Haha, I was thinking the same thing. Trash cans for giants.
I assume they light up, which would probably look cool at night. Daytime... not so much.

If the bottoms also integrated a street refuse can the shape might be a little more appropriate.
I noticed a few had benches right behind them too. I don't think a lot of attention was put into the placement of the sculptures either. Sight lines around corners are impacted as well.

The bike lanes on Main between Vickery and Lancaster have been repainted, and are now green!

I wonder what it will look like by the end of the summer. Probably pretty drab.

"This Fort Worth neighborhood is booming. Why some fear it could become another West 7th"
Just like with the "Don't Dallas My Fort Worth" slogan, I have to ask what that means, exactly.
(and if they somewhat answered that question in the video, I'm unable to hear it at the moment)

The takeaways I got were that it was unpretentious and cheap, and the pioneers of the area see it getting away from both of those, which to them will take the charm out of the area. I think the cheap part is already vanishing.

If they're referring directly to the Crockett Row portion (although Museum Place and Montgomery aren't all that different), I take it to mean that West 7th was a forced change by a single developer and not entirely organic and natural. The Near Southside in general has seemed to take on that natural progression.

Agreed, but then again, the "natural progression" of Magnolia took about 30 years. South Main Village is gonna be, like, 5 years. They're keeping more of the old buildings, but it's still an industrialized time scale (i.e., very quick), not something that will organically occur.

Noticed that Chamber's Brick seems to have left thier space and it is now for lease. Almost all of the original S. Main light industrial types have now left.

This might have been posted but Fort Worth is getting Emporium Pies at South Main Village. Is there another pie place going in downtown too? I recall seeing it discussed on the DDRB.

This is indeed confusing. Emporium Pies was going to take the old Texas Rangers space, then opened this. I don't know if they've abandoned the Sundance location or if they'll have two.

Austin55, Thanks for confirming my confusion. I recall there was very specific signage discussions for the Rangers store space on DDRB and hadn't heard anything since then.
We have taken several visitors over to Bishop Arts to get some pie and it's quaint as quaint can be. I think I miss out on full menu and by the time I get there they've run out. What I'm seeing on their website about halfway aligns with what I see in-person when I visit.
I guess I missed their pie truck today too:

A commercial remodel permit and sign permit have been pulled for Emporium Pies at 411 S MAIN ST, SUITE 121, Fort Worth TX 76104 which apparently was the Winton and Waits (A Cause-driven Lifestyle Brand) location.
Interesting that this is a to-go only location. Not sure I'm down for that, I could just as easily run to the grocery store. I wanted an equally quaint sit-down pie eating experience (post-COVID of course). Not to mention that the pies are baked offsite? Some things are meant to be eaten while walking around like an ice cream cone or a pretzel but not pie. Maybe there's seating somewhere else nearby? I'd sort of feel strange walking down the street eating a giant piece of apple pie à la mode and trying to share it with a friend in 95-degree heat. Or what about having a cup of coffee. Let's give it some more time, maybe there's more to the story than what's on the city permit site, although it is pretty specific.
Emporium PiesInterior remodel of retail space to be a retail bakery for to-go pick up slices of pie. Pies are baked at a commissary and delivered to the site. No baking or cooking on site. All pie is to-go only.

That makes a little more sense. You could likely find a place to sit down there. Any good public sitting areas along S. Main Village. I need to check it out again soon.

Fort Worths new Emporium Pies will open for pickup service from its walkup pie window starting on Friday, April 16. Full dining room service will follow by the end of the year.

Austin55, I wonder if the Sundance location is not going to happen? Maybe the rent was too high, lack of space or lack of available parking? DDRB sounded optimistic at their signage review. Some signage projects can be pretty expensive depending on the type.
