This is good news for the industrial area bounded by Seminary Drive, Granbury Road, and McCart.  NT Windows is seeking a tax abatement from the City of Fort Worth to relocate to the old S&H Green Stamp Warehouse and Distribution Center at 2900 W. Seminary Drive.  The Business Press article states the building was built in 1958, but it actually was present in the Historicaerials.com photograph from 1956.  By 1963, it had been nearly doubled in size.  In 2009, the addition was demolished for a gas drilling pad.

The old timers here in Fort Worth could tell you about it.  My mother used to drag me over there to redeem her stamps for merchandise.

S&H Green Stamps are a discontinued line of trading stamps popular in the United States from the 1930s until the late 1980s.

After S&H Green Stamps closed, the building was used by other companies.  I think Pier 1 Imports even had a warehouse in the building for a while.  After Chesapeake Energy purchased the site for a gas drilling well, they demolished about half of the building (last major addition) and then the rest sat vacant.

I can remember going to that Green Stamps store with my mom in the mid-80s to redeem stamps.

I seem to remember ordering stuff through the mail for Green Stamps, but maybe that's wrong.  I can't remember a Green Stamps showroom near my house growing up.

In a similar vein, I remember my dad smoked Garcia Y Vega cigars (I know... yuck) and we got all kinds of stuff through them (he probably smoked too much).  My first radio, my first cassette player were paid for by cigar bands.  They were off-brand stuff with with the Channel Master name (apparently they still make TV antennas).  The items I got from them were actually pretty good quality.

Well there's activity in the building so it looks like NT Windows is moving forward.  Interestingly, this thread was referenced on NextDoor when someone asked what was going on there.

That building is exactly 1.0 mile due north of my house.  Interestingly, when this was discussed a year ago, I had no idea I'd be moving.

They are working on the building with enthusiasm at this point.

Based on some Google Maps measurements, the S&H Green Stamps building is a bit larger than all of Westcliff Center put together.  It's almost as big as a modern Walmart.

It used to be about twice the size it is now.  Part of the property was purchased for a gas well drilling site and the addition to the building was demolished.  This happened around 2008.

I suppose that in addition to being an S&H redemption center it was also a district warehouse.

In addition to being a stamp redemption center, it was either a district warehouse or a distribution center.

It was a Pier One Kids furniture outlet, according to someone on Nextdoor.  That sounds about right, although it might have been just a warehouse and offices, not an outlet.

It served for several things after S&H Green Stamps vacated the building.  I remember the Pier One Kids, but I'm not sure if it was ever an actual outlet.  It might have been.  I haven't stepped foot inside since S&H closed, but I have driven by there many times over the years.

Pier One Kids is what I remember.  At the time it struck me as being a district office, not a retail outlet of any kind.  And it made me happy to see that kind of use in that location.

Then it was vacant for so long.  That made me sad.  Looking forward to putting the building to good use.

I would be real curious to know what purchasing roughly half of the property, tearing that portion of the building down, and putting a gas well site right next door contributed to the vacancy of the building itself.  Since the area is industrial, it might not have had any impact.  On the other hand, a smaller building might have not been as easy to lease.

I think it was vacant before the gas well.

Construction is moving right along.

Yes, the building was vacant before the gas well was put in.  It's really hard to say how the well affected things.  Before the well, the building was about twice the size that it is currently, and it was vacant.  It stood at approximately half that size with a gas well next door and was vacant for a long time.

I have driven by here several times since they started the renovation on the building and I have been watching it move along.
